Trump Suggests States To “Seriously Consider” Opening Public Schools
Chick on the Right ^ | April 28,2020 | By Mary R

And on the 28th day of April during the pandemic, I heard God open Heaven, and the angels sang a familiar song, “It is time for these four kids of mine to go back to school.”

In a conference call with governors regarding procedures to safely open up the states, Trump suggested that they consider opening up public schools. This is something that parents all over the country are wondering about to various degrees.

All joking aside, I think kids should go back to school during May. Students would benefit socially and emotionally a lot more than academically, but I am okay with that. This would be an excellent way for us to ease students’ fear and send them off to their summer with clear minds and hearts.

From the same AP report, the American Association of School Administrators, Daniel Domenech, thinks this is not in the best interest of the students. Domenech says, “It’s not the right thing to do. Particularly when we’re involving the safety and welfare of our students.”

While no one wants the reopening of schools to cause deaths among students or faculty, living in this fear zone is not healthy for anyone, especially children whose brains are still forming. The best thing we can do for them is to give them a calm routine and a chance to socialize with their peers.

Teachers would rather get paid for doing nothing or not very much...

I have to laugh at people who can’t stand being around their precious little brats. They’ve had to endure the little shits they’ve produced. It’s funny.

Isn’t that what many teachers normally do even when the schools are open?

Our seniors always get the last one-two weeks off anyway. I agree not much of a point-just finish the year with the on line methods. Do something special for the Seniors a bit later.

Some of the schools in our State have had drive through graduations.

Hey! That ain’t gonna happen.

The people who are sill working had arrangements for summer.

Besides, aren’t we going to “Shiver in Place” again around November?

They should. Two reasons: Kids whose parents are not doing lessons with them (which I would suspect is the majority) are losing the “wrap up” of the curriculum year, and kids whose parents are essential workers, which means anything from fast-food to cleaning, etc., in other words, low paid , are roaming the streets.

Their parents can’t take them to a camp or special activities, but the parents can’t be home with the kids either. Even if the kids weren’t learning a lot in school, they were getting some attention and they weren’t out breaking into cars.

So yes, a mandatory summer school should be in order.

The schools are a done deal, but I think he should ask the Governors to encourage schools to hold graduation ceremonies for HS seniors. If held outdoors there can be plenty of distance between families. Six feet would be no problem at all.

Public schools ie socialist indoctrination centers/pedophile and homosexual grooming should be closed permanently.

Gavin Newsom is “proposing” (as of today) as part of his California/West coast plan that school (K-12) starts up in July, to make up for what they missed this year, and also presumably so that parents can get back to work. Even though I don’t think much of Newsom, I think this is actually a pretty reasonable thing.

Sad that the school didn’t give the kids that worked so hard to graduate an opportunity to walk down the aisle! To a senior GRADUATION IS EVERYTHING..they were robbed because of the hysteria and hair on fire hoax! SO SAD!! I feel bad for them...what a horrible memory to have for a lifetime! The school system should have done something special and different for them! Instead they drunk the koolaid!!

There’s a good chance that asymptomatic “carriers” don’t easily infect others, as discussed on other threads, including one last night.

Well, it depends on status of virus—best way to get a second wave is to start the schools where we all know that kids will carry the infections home to parents and grand parents. Especially those schools that have illegals who might have some other interesting things to add to the mix.

Haven’t heard that, and it’s long been thought that asymptomatic carriers are the biggest problem in the amount of spread.

Got a link handy that I can take a look at? Interested in hearing more..

I have a 2020 college graduate and high school graduate. May 2020 was a month our family has looked forward to for a long time. Now, nothing.

Here is one link from last night.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/26/children-unlikely-to-transmit-coronavirus-says-study-cited-in-pms-push-to-reopen-schools

I remember seeing some other articles about a month ago about the obseration that people not showing virus symptoms often are less apt to infect others, saying that it might mean that this is why it hasn’t spread from children to teachers and their parents in the case of COVID-19. I’ll try to find one or more of those.

You must be a man/woman of leisure who doesn’t have a need to do income producing work. Or perhaps you’re just barren?

Anyhow, you’re the second FReeper I’ve heard say that people who think the schools should be open must not be able to stand their children. IMHO that’s very bizarre thinking.
