Most kids aren’t very clean or conscientious about what they touch or how often, no matter how vigilant a parent is.

Asymptomatic children touching their face or whatnot and touching other surfaces or whatnot would make an asymptomatic super spreader as likely as anything else WRT what little we apparently know for sure regarding this.

You should read the studies coming out of Australia and Switzerland. Kids are far from spreaders. They probably aren’t transmitting it much at all.

No, the schools need to remain closed through November so that teachers and their union will have time off to campaign for Joe Biden.

“They’ve had to endure...”
___________________________

I think it’s a combination of several factors.

While there are parents who really are finding out their ‘angel’ really is a mini-demon in disguised, there are also parents who are not mentally wired to be teachers.

Not every person is wired naturally for all skills. I know several of my friends who are experiencing moments of sheer frustration for lack of being able to teach certain subjects.

I also know from experience there are parents who really had no clue as to the actions of their child/children during school hours. As in they always elected to believe their child over anything a teacher would describe during Parent/Teacher meetings.

A former co-worker actually sent her son to Summer School every year it was offered because her boy just couldn’t comprehend ANYTHING during the regular school sessions. With it being all through high school, the issue was with the child not a particular school teacher. At least on that issue the mom was thinking soundly. In that family the father was the problem because he’s ‘sports, Sports, SPORTS’ driven and was only interested in that for his son.

Though I’m not sure of Vermont Lt’s parental status I was not barren....

LOL

I’m in CA with kids in public school and I’m fine with Newsom’s July reopening idea.

The problem is, he’s just brainstorming (much like Trump with his “disinfectent into the body” ideas), and the teachers’ unions will just not go for it. There’s no way. The teachers’ unions fight for (or against) every calendar day and MINUTE in the school year calendar.

In fact I’m seeing signs that the teachers’ unions won’t “allow” the teachers to resume teaching in the fall at all.

I’m a public school teacher and you’re damn right

Not the Public school teachers I know, but you must be working with a group of high class losers then.

Yes I feel very sad for the high school seniors. I’m hoping their families will put on private serious ceremonies with their friends and family members instead. I’ve been to some very special homeschoolers’ graduation ceremonies—they are actually better. Less hot and more intimate and not boring (listening to hundreds of names read off in the bleachers). Parents could put together something really nice if they put their minds to it.

I have a college senior—not high school—I’m sad for him too. All that work, unacknowledged. And he didn’t even have time to say goodbye to his friends, classmates, professors. . .it was just over very suddenly.

The school calendar here runs until the end of June (New York State). We have already canceled Regents exams and I really think we could get a lot done. It isn’t getting done online. Granted, my daughter is a Senior and has special needs, but she really misses school and I think finishing out the year would be a great thing. Of course Cuomo will probably cancel the rest of the year tomorrow... but he has mentioned summer school will be necessary and more people that I know are against that. My county hasn’t had a lot of cases.

Their parents can’t take them to a camp or special activities, but the parents can’t be home with the kids either.

Furthermore, a lot of these kids are asymptomatic and are being dropped off with grandma and grandpa, exposing their elderly relatives to CV.

Out of the endless levels of stupidity this Idiocracy has demonstrated during the "pandemic" shutting down the schools and sending the kids home ranks near the top.

I saw the doom and gloomer posting about the spring breakers going to infect millions by becoming “super spreaders” - - don’t see too much about that anymore - - funny how they move to another narrative when the first one doesn’t pan out.

My grandson is a senior at a private school in CA. They went on Spring break in March and never went back. It’s a boarding school so the students are scattered all over the world. Most of their belongings are still in their dorm rooms. The headmistress has promised them that they will have an in person graduation ceremony but they just don’t know when. There are only 62 kids in the class and the school is surrounded by the great outdoors with and outdoor auditorium so I think this graduation is possible. I hope.

Some public school teachers make jokes.

Teachers would rather get paid for doing nothing or not very much.

Teachers will fight to stay out. They have big clout with their voting block. The ones in Kentucky are loving it since they draw regular pay, don't have to be in classroom, make a half-a$$ed attempt to give out work on line or by telephone, and have no accountability since testing is not being done. They'll fight to stay out next year, too.
