Gavin Newsom is “proposing” (as of today) as part of his California/West coast plan that school (K-12) starts up in July, to make up for what they missed this year, and also presumably so that parents can get back to work. Even though I don’t think much of Newsom, I think this is actually a pretty reasonable thing.
Well, it depends on status of virus—best way to get a second wave is to start the schools where we all know that kids will carry the infections home to parents and grand parents. Especially those schools that have illegals who might have some other interesting things to add to the mix.
I’m in CA with kids in public school and I’m fine with Newsom’s July reopening idea.
The problem is, he’s just brainstorming (much like Trump with his “disinfectent into the body” ideas), and the teachers’ unions will just not go for it. There’s no way. The teachers’ unions fight for (or against) every calendar day and MINUTE in the school year calendar.
In fact I’m seeing signs that the teachers’ unions won’t “allow” the teachers to resume teaching in the fall at all.
