Out of the Shadows
God is in charge – of everything. And when something BIG is happening, it can cause pain around the world – it could be that God is doing something big right before our eyes in our own day. Two things happening simultaneously that are shaking up the world; 1) the world wide pandemic created by this “flue” from China, and, 2) the glut of oil caused by friction between Saudi Arabia and Russia, exasperated by the lack of commerce caused by the flue pandemic. Thus: 1) The largest source of terror in the world, Iran, is crumpling – largely over price of oil and corona virus infecting their leadership; 2) Netanyahu is forming a unity government after three tries (in spite of internal forces against him), spurred on by the need for unity in face of the virus, thus paving the way for new piece initiatives in the Mid Ease; 3) The dictator in Argentina is collapsing, largely over the price of oil; 4) China is in real turmoil, largely of their own making; 5) Planned Parenthood offices are closing all over the world because of the virus; 6) Who knows what is happening in North Korea?
Too soon to know how this will all shake out, but big things are changing rapidly in our world today – and as I said: God is in charge.
Whenever big thinks happen, people – even God’s people – can be inconvenienced – even hurt. (“Aslan is on the move!”, as C. S. Lewis would say.) Being hurt, however, is a relative term. What can harm us? We have been “legally” adopted into His family, marked with the sign of eternal salvation! And as a child of God I’m tired of quivering in the shadows of fear, suspicion, and anger.
Remember what our ancestors said in the desert: ‘“If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by pots of meat and ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to starve this whole assembly to death!”’ We never what change - - - God always does. Big things require big changes - - and big trust. We do not know where this is going or how it will end, except that it will go God’s way and end on His terms – and that is enough to know. I’m not happy – So What!! Happiness was never part of the bargain. Obedience; faithfulness – now we’re talking. That, and taking life on His terms, not mine.
Guess I’m not as good at that as I thought.

Many not so big things too:
families finding new ways to spend time together. some family members likely reconnecting with one’s they were distant from.
people learning what is and isnt a necessity ( hair cut, nails, having to eat a certain food or go to a certain place for “feel good”
many people likely giving God a second thought....
Like the perfect Father, He doesn’t like to see us struggling through, but He knows it’s for our best in the end.

The family is the bedrock of culture. Destroy that and anything can happen.

We all had to stay home with our families, and many have had the need and opportunity to educate their children themselves, instead of giving that “chore” to the government.
We lost our sports and entertainment: the usual idols we ‘worship’ on the weekends.
We’ve been given an opportunity to rest and rethink our thinking about what is essential and non-essential.
Many have had to face in a very serious way their own death and we all have been reminded about how puny we humans actually are and how unready many of us are to die.
And many have realized, perhaps for the first time in a long time, how truly blessed we are to live(!) and how precious our time here really is.
Many, in this new stillness, have heard His Voice and many have been saved and many have been renewed in their faith.
No worries. He’s got this.

Though we are not supposed to "put the Lord to the test", we CAN know that whatever God allows to transpire in our lives - even to the tiniest detail - He allows for a reason. I can go about my life, living in obedience to Him, trusting in Him to lead me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. I do not need to live in fear. I will go out and do the things I need to do - while not taking unnecessary or foolish risks - and trust that my life is in God's hands ALWAYS.
He has appointed a term of life for each of us - we cannot alter it. Once we accept this, life can become a JOY! Live life to the fullest - faithfully and in obedience - and you will be in everlasting joy. Hallelujah!!
The longer I live the clearer the picture has become that this IS true! I look back and see how so many things fit together to bring me to this point in life. Even things that brought heartache have worked together for good. I feel so blessed and I thank Him every day for His grace, mercy and love. Experiencing real joy is so much better than just being “happy”. PTL!
