Another major pork production plant is shutting down over a spike in cases of the coronavirus, further straining the U.S. meat supply chain and raising fears of potential shortages. Tyson Foods said it is closing its Waterloo, Iowa plant, where it has 2,800 employees and processes 19,500 hogs a day. It is Tyson’s largest pork plant and represents about 4 percent of the nation’s pork processing capacity. “Despite our continued efforts to keep our people safe while fulfilling our critical role of feeding American families, the combination of worker absenteeism, covid-19 cases and community concerns has resulted in our decision to stop production,” said Steve Stouffer, group president of Tyson Fresh Meats.

I definitely more limited meat selections at Costco. The Costco I go to has not had boneless chicken breast for a while.

Lots of unemployed illegal aliens.

Now would be the time to remove them.

the tyson dude was on a few days ago saying everything was fine with the overall food industry and transportation- and that they could easily transition to smaller packages for stores if they had to- (I guess a large part of their contracts is with large orders/packaging for insitutions)

I think the UK is trying to incite panic buying to keep this hysteria going

I like bacon...and that's about it from a pig.

I have cattle....so I could butcher one of them.

If it gets down to it...I can kill a deer everyday if I have to.

It’s because, working closely, the employees easily spread the virus.

These plants are essential and weren’t ‘shutdown’ when everything else was.

We’re looking at real food shortages in the US later in the summer and fall. The madness needs to end soon, people need to be able to get back to work.

I like the low sodium Spam. The regular will kill you with salt. Ate a LOT when I was a kid.

MILLIONS of Demonrats have been screaming for years to take meat away from the proles, because “green” nonsense. Well, they never let a crisis go to waste. Better stock up now, and make a deal with a local farmer to buy 1/4 or 1/2 a cow now, because soon, the Demonrats will have what they want: nobody but the elite will be able to afford meat.

All of this kind of stuff was discussed as possibilities every time one of these weird things popped out of China. SARS, MERS, Bird Flu, etc.

Those other ones never got that bad (SARS and MERS) throughout the entire world, and for whatever reason, CV-19 has got a lot more people way more concerned than the Bird Flu did.

Did the meat workers and everyone else get sick with the Bird Flu and just keep working? Or they took sick days (or died) and nobody really thought much of it. For all the talk that the Bird Flu killed so many more folks than CV-19, I’m guessing that it is the quick rate of increase that has folks spooked with CV-19. There are some animated charts on youtube that compare CV-19 with all the other big diseases since 2000 and it is pretty astounding.

Don’t they shut down for the flu?

Or other common colds?

Asking for a friend...

It's even worse than that. Tyson fired their illegals to hire filthy Somali refugees that were subsidized by the Federal government (taxpayers), so Tyson's out-of-pocket costs were even lower than paying illegals.

Add in the fact the the Somalis demanded 3 prayer breaks per day, and that they didn't even know how to use flush toilets, or basic sanitation practices, and we're looking at a recipe for disaster.

Plus, Tyson is a huge Clinton supporter and donor. I would eat urban pigeon before letting Tyson chicken into my kitchen.

this scurrilous, anti-American, anti-Trump rag has been trying to promote their phony “food shortage” for over two months now ... they must put out a variation of this story at least once a week ... the DM is pissed ever since Melania sued and won millions from them, and they’ve been doing everything in their power since then to spread fear, uncertainly, doubt, and panic in our country every since then ... they’re actually worse than China from that perspective ...

I actually prefer it to the regular - luckily, the local Sam’s carries it.

Snouts, feet and tails will now be a commodity.

Mixed with cornmeal, it's called scrapple.
