I like the low sodium Spam. The regular will kill you with salt. Ate a LOT when I was a kid.

I actually prefer it to the regular - luckily, the local Sam’s carries it.
The original salt pork, salt cod etc. were salted for preservation. The meat was soaked in water to remove the salt before cooking.
When I feel I am getting too much salt, I will soak bacon, ham, or other salted meat (I have one can of spam in storage) prior to cooking.
