3 Bay Area counties share data in report published by CDC
Americans addiction to greasy junk food and heaping meal portions, disparities in access to healthy food and sitting for hours on end have made us especially vulnerable to COVID-19.
The United States has more obese people about 40 percent of the overall population than any other major nation, and obesity has been linked to chronic, preventable illnesses such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Any of those conditions can lead to a more severe outcome of COVID-19.
A recent analysis of hospital network data found that 48 percent of patients being treated for the disease were obese.
The COVID-NET report, published on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, looked at 1,482 patients in 99 counties nationwide, including Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties in California. The data were collected between March 1 and March 31.
The data showed that 9 of 10 patients had an underlying medical condition, including:

The fact that half the population may be at special risk is news.
oxygen transfer problem IS a low blood o2 problem
the iron factor is exactly why chloroquine and sweet wormwood work against both malaria and cv.
I dont doubt that obesity immune system. But I dont understand the math. 40% of Americans are obese - 50% of covid patients are obese. So what does that mean? Its nearly at the same % as the population.
Correct...also Zinc, Copper and Magnesium would be beneficial, but taken at different times.
99.99% of the people I see every day are obese. It is so rare to see an adult who isn’t obese, that people call them skinny. Seems like everyone is fat now. I was hoping to lose weight now while grocery store shelves are bare.
I am very large frame. We used to call it big boned. The good thing is that I don’t have bone thinning. I have had bone density tests and at almost 70 my bones are strong. My mom is under 5 ft tall and is very big boned. She is 93 and has strong bones! She looks tiny and thin but weighs a lot.
There is no special risk. If 50% of the general population is obese, and half the coronvirus victims are obese there is no special risk.. they are represented exactly the same in the Covid 19 population as they are in the general population. That no special risk
Diabetes and obesity are cited as major risk factors with this virus. If you are both and catch the disease you probably are headed for a hospital. If you are neither maybe you are asymptomatic. We need widespread testing.
Since most obese people eat breakfast, statistically, eating breakfast might be more associated with COVID-19.
Since chain smokers tend to not be obese, an argument could be made that chain smoking decreases to the odds of catching the ‘rona.
Lying statistics.
The author plays the race card in the very first sentence. Good job, Mike, you are doing what you were hired to do.
Now if you could only find a less offensive word than “obese” to use. Fat shaming is no longer acceptable in the woke world. /s
40% of all Americans over age 20 are obese and as you raise the age limit up, over 30, over 40 the % increases-(obese is about 20% overweight) so -so 49% doesn’t seem abnormal
most people hearing obese are probably thinking of morbidly obese or huge-you can be 20lbs overweight and be obese
All of the people they have interviewed on TV who have or had CV were not fat. Including that woman who was PG and they did C Section while she was ill, Chris Cuomo, and several other people. All were gravely ill, and very thin. None were even slightly overweight.
Got up to 95 here today. Everyone was happy to be inside. LOL Nights are still cold! I love this time of year.
Our son is six ft tall and 240 lbs and he is solid muscle, mixed martial arts, can lift 475 lbs, arms are as big around as an oak tree. His body fat is very low. He can break your neck with one hand but prefers to share the Gospel with everyone. But fat, he isn’t. He works out every day and eats low fat, low carb.
My BMI is 26, making me “overweight”.
My Body Fat Percentage is 21%, which puts me in the best category of “Lean”, since I’m over 55.
I have muscle. BMI is useless.
Obesity rates and Covid death rates are very close to one another.
Fat people are not dying at vastly higher rates.
I have the same, 5’11” and 185 lbs, which is an “overweight” BMI.
Simultaneously, I have a measured body fat of 21%, at age 58, making me “lean”. I chop wood, bike, yoga, or gym, etc. every single day for a couple of hours. I can go on a 50 mile bike ride or a 10 mile hike today and feel great tomorrrow.
BMI is Fed Gov stupid.
Awesome! You are an inspiration! Keep on inspiring!
