I’m a pressure canner fraidy cat though.

Always check the vent hole in the lid before sealing it down. Don't ever filled over 3/4ths up, and don't EVER put your face in way of the rubber safety plug. We had one blow off once, and it dented the aluminum grease trap in the exhaust vent over the stove. Plus a large amount of steam and hot water was vented. That's the only issue we've ever had after years of using pressure pots - we use them for cooking meals as well as for canning.

Ya, we’ve got an instant pot we use for cooking. Love it.

We’ve also got one of the big all american canners we got for Christmas one year but have been afraid to use.

Yes, I do it on a stove. I don’t recall the volume ie # of Qts. or Gallons, but it will hold 8 wide mouth quarts.

NURSING HOMES

Nursing homes now have to report coronavirus cases to families and federal government

“nursing homes will have to tell patients and their families within 12 hours of a coronavirus diagnosis and give weekly updates.

“The facilities will also have to provide information on confirmed and suspected cases, hospital admissions and deaths of patients and staff to the CDC, said Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Her agency will also make the data available to the public but has not yet decided how.

“Nursing homes have been ground zero for Covid-19,” said Verma, calling the new reporting requirement “critical” to monitoring the virus’ spread and reopening the country.”

If we can learn from this, nursing homes are generally connected to a hospital or have a preference on where they send residents that get sick. For the proverbial ‘second wave’, What if a liaison or concierge person was assigned to a hospital (country worker maybe) that would be in charge of checking/monitoring these nursing homes for first signs of a problem? And then move to assist them (the biggie) as if they are part of that hospital?

Agree. They are having issues even now. It’s getting worse in Mexico too. Mexico city has over 20 million residents.

A lot of the worst cases seem to cluster around nursing homes.

Sad.

Well they can think what they want. I rarely went to movies or restaurants and I don’t plan on increasing that just cause they want to be rude and call me names. spit.

We have two larger ones for canning. IIRC, the largest holds about 22 quart jars. We have 3 smaller pots for cooking on top of the stove.

Spiral. Had a flat top when we built the house — was glad when it died so I could get a regular stove. LOL

Thanks for all the info!

We are looking for a spiral top stove on the cheap. One without a fancy computerized MIC control panel!

Like for a canning kitchen? For your home kitchen?

I always wanted a little canning house.

We looked at property, once, that had one and I thought....what a great sanctuary/escape...lol

I bought mine on sale at Walmart—it’s a Presto - No gauge on top or elsewhere. It has a 3 ring pressure regulator, and air vent/cover lock, and a safety over pressure plug.

I have a water bath canner that I bought the first year we were married-back in the 60s. I have used that for pickles, tomatoes and jelly. It also served as a washing machine back when we were too poor to go to the laundry or make payments on a washing machine.

You’ll have to go natural with your hair.

And yes, I did cut my own bangs.

Haven’t done that since I was a poor college student.

Well, I expect there will be some decent sales of stuff once the stores open up again. Consumer spending may be slow — so they might have to move some inventory.
