Looking at Sweden’s Coronavirus worldometer (every country has one) There doesn’t seem to be any appreciable difference between the infection curve there and the infection curve of other countries. Same goes for the death curve. Yet Sweden chose not to destroy its economy with a massive lockdown.
It is surprising that a country like Sweden, a fan of the UN and home to many socialists, went its own way and discovered a better way than just about every other country.

I live in Ohio. Herr DeWine is going to wring every ounce of control he can out of this. Latest word is he may require masks to be worn by everyone, everywhere in public, once the restrictions are eased.
I’m getting more than a little angry over this trampling of my rights.
Standard view is that “it would have been worse in the US but we successfully mitigated the danger through isolation”.
But I think that is really coming into question. There is evidence that isolation and the economic shutdown did little or nothing to help. Other countries did not shutdown and don’t seem to have suffered more from the disease. So it may be reasonable to see COVID19 as a flu season significantly less serious than the 2017 flu season.
If we open back up, I don’t think the sky will fall. And I do think the economy will explode in a very good way.

No it isn’t. Also the death curve is supposed to be delayed with social distancing. So one could easily make a good case that US deaths will continue after Sweden’s deaths have drastically slowed.

We have chosen to suppress the death spike in exchange
for putting up with this longer. Cases in Sweden will slowly drop to zero before ours do.
That said, I think we could have struck a different balance, but since it would have caused numerous more deaths, the buying into the panic by so many dictated that we be more extreme - looser handling of this would have created a firestorm that may very well have handed the WH and possibly the Senate to the Dems...we now have a chance at full control if we stick with the President.
It ain’t the flubro. This is the mostest deadliest by rus evah. And your taking it so lightly is killing thousands upon thousands. Sure, a depression will kill millions but that is just speculation. The models of the virus and what it can do are sacrosanct.

Many of us will have been exposed and never gotten it, high immune systems. Others will have gotten it, and barely noticed. Most vulnerable seem to be the elderly and the extremely obese ~ same for many illnesses

Population of Sweden is 10.23 million, USA population is 33 times higher, so 1,033 deaths in Sweden corresponds to 33,000 deaths in the US. But the population of NYC is also about 10mm and has 7,000 deaths already. So it depends.

This study (done by testing 1500+ people at random) finds about .33% of Austrians were infected, about 28,000 people in the whole country (population 8.8mm). There have been 384 deaths in Austria from CV19 (but only 337 at the time the study was released). 300/28000 is a 1.1% Infection Fatality Rate, 10 times higher than seasonal flu.
