The IRS has been complaining about its antiquated technology for at least 20 years.

Let’s just abolish it and put all taxes on sales.
Problem solved.

I remember in the late 70s Weekly Reader school paper about parts for IRS computers were crumbling and how sad it was.

John Koskinen and Lois Lerner were too busy handling other matters at the IRS.

IRS holding the country to ransome again. We want our cut of the deal. Everyone else is getting some. How about us. It’s government bureaucrats and their well=heeled support service contractors doing what they do. Trump should tell them that he will start firing folks if they can’t do their jobs.

If you didnt file your 2019 or 2018 taxes AND get a refund via direct deposit, dont hold your breath on how soon you will get a check. Also if you changed bank accounts since you filed and received a refund via direct deposit, dont hold your breath on the IRS getting a website up and running for adding or updating your direct deposit information. Same with an address change although perhaps would be forwarded depending how long ago you moved and if the USPS is still forwarding mail. But if and when they do get a website for updating DD or address, the window of time between when you will have access to update and how soon that data will make it to the master file and when they have to start pulling data from the masterfile for printing checks is going to be incredibly tight.
I dont care what Mnuchin says, 2 weeks is not realistic.

Delays with me on purpose. Pure and simple. The same people that work there are the same people Lois Lerner shepherded.

Doesn’t surprise me. The 2000 Census was the first one to be performed by the bureau, althoigh the Navy QA offices at the contractors’ facilities obtained desktop computers in 1993.
Btw, the Census had a contract with Canada for Wordperfect!

“We will create a web-based system for people where [if] we don’t have their direct deposit [information], they can upload it so that they can get the money immediately as opposed to checks in the mail,” Mnuchin said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
