At a former open pit copper mine filled with billions of gallons of toxic water, sirens and loud pops from propane cannons echo off the granite walls to scare away birds so they dont land.
After several thousand migrating snow geese perished in the Berkeley Pits acidic, metal-laden waters in 2016, its owners deployed a sophisticated arsenal to frighten away flocks, including lasers, drones, fireworks and remote-controlled boats.
Montana Resources already had been hazing incoming birds with spotlights and rifle shots into the water and a spokesman says those existing deterrents likely helped the company avoid a penalty or prosecution under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
But the Trump administration wants to end the 50-year practice of using the criminal penalties under the migratory bird law to pressure companies into taking measures like these to prevent unintentional bird deaths. [ ]
Former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe told The Associated Press the laws threat of prosecution served as a brake on industry that had saved probably billions of birds. [ ]
The Trump administration dismissed Ashes dire prediction, contending companies will continue to avoid bird deaths voluntarily.

Too late, the eco-nazis with their windmills already do that.
And their solar fryers.
How about all the birds, including eagles, slaughtered in wind farms?
The photo on the AP website shows those windmills, funny enough.
They neglect the a total footprint. There is no such thing as "clean energy".
Wind mills? Pffftttttt! Price you gotta pay to get off “fossil” fuels. Right?
and where do they get “billions”. Are there really that many open mines and similar deadly lures for birdbrained birds?
Here in Michigan we could use a few hundred thousand deaths of geese............
And the oil that keeps the blades lubricated and spinning comes from the Oil Fairy.
Let’s go after the coots first. Unless we can corral them to collect their droppings for fertilizer they are a menace... at least to golfers.
The 2015 Gold King Mine waste water spill was an environmental disaster that began at the Gold King Mine near Silverton, Colorado, when Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) personnel, along with workers for Environmental Restoration LLC (a Missouri company under EPA contract to mitigate pollutants from the closed mine), caused the release of toxic waste water into the Animas River watershed. They caused the accident while attempting to drain ponded water near the entrance of the mine on August 5. After the spill, the Silverton Board of Trustees and the San Juan County Commission approved a joint resolution seeking Superfund money.

The EPA has taken responsibility for the incident, but refused to pay for any damages claims filed after the accident on grounds of sovereign immunity, pending special authorization from Congress or re-filing of lawsuits in federal court.
Right send this A-Hole on a tour or windmill farms.
The Fish and Wildlife Service also said that cats kill billions of birds. Has this guy lobbied to get rid of them also?
The spent blades are a problem. They're carbon fiber and not recyclable, so they are being buried in landfills.
Another progressive that can’t count. The world’s snow goose population is approximately 5 million birds, up 300% from the 1970s.
2640 x 1320 x 900 = 3,136,320,000 cubic feet x 7.5 gallons per cubic foot = 23,522,400,000 gallons.
23.5 billion gallons of poison.
Screw the Asspress dungbeetles.
Remember the EPA causing the release of millions of gallons of heavy metal mine water in Colorado? Are the agencies having a contest to see who can cause the most damage?
