Hundreds of churchgoers in Louisiana IGNORE ban on gatherings as state cases rise by 225 to 3,540 overnight and governor warns healthcare system will be overwhelmed

Hundreds of people flouted Louisiana's COVID-19 ban on gatherings, coming on buses and in personal vehicles to the first of three Sunday services at their church as the governor warns that the state's healthcare system will be overwhelmed. An estimated 500 people of all ages filed inside the mustard-yellow and beige Life Tabernacle church in Central, a city of nearly 29,000 outside Baton Rouge. The church's pastor, Tony Spell, defied an order from Gov John Bel Edwards who banned mass gatherings in the state where more than 3,500 Louisiana residents have been diagnosed with the disease caused by the coronavirus, and 151 people have died, according to figures released Sunday. Edwards repeated on Sunday's national news talk shows what he's been saying for days: the state's hospitals may become overwhelmed due to rise in cases in New Orleans.

I found nowhere on his social media where he commanded, threatened, ordered his followers to show up. He just opened the church and informed them. That’s on them. Yes I get he is the leader but these are grown adults...not children nor prisoners nor Chinese citizens.

You’re weaseling. He held a service. And announced that we was holding a service. A good leader wouldn’t have. He’s an idiot. He’s a scumbag. And you’re desperately trying to excuse inexcusably stupid behavior. You’d be smarter to just admit it: he’s a no good $#$%. Doesn’t matter if other people made poor decisions. HE’S IN CHARGE OF THE BUILDING AND HE DID A STUPID THING. That will probably result in some of his parishioners dying. He’s scum. Period. Anybody disagreeing is excusing scum.

Ummmmm - it is each person’s personal action of attending that put them in the mix.....

Yes, and it was the “personal action” of each of the Manson family members when they murdered Sharon Tate. That doesn’t mean Charlie got off, does it?

I’m chill. But he’s still scum. The first duty of any leader, ANY leader, is the safety and well being of those they lead. When he went ahead and had his services he told them it would be OK. Explicitly or not, THAT is the message he sent. And it was a lie. And there’s a possibility his people will die because of it. He failed in the first duty of leadership. He is scum. Period.
