Hundreds of churchgoers in Louisiana IGNORE ban on gatherings as state cases rise by 225 to 3,540 overnight and governor warns healthcare system will be overwhelmed

Hundreds of people flouted Louisiana's COVID-19 ban on gatherings, coming on buses and in personal vehicles to the first of three Sunday services at their church as the governor warns that the state's healthcare system will be overwhelmed. An estimated 500 people of all ages filed inside the mustard-yellow and beige Life Tabernacle church in Central, a city of nearly 29,000 outside Baton Rouge. The church's pastor, Tony Spell, defied an order from Gov John Bel Edwards who banned mass gatherings in the state where more than 3,500 Louisiana residents have been diagnosed with the disease caused by the coronavirus, and 151 people have died, according to figures released Sunday. Edwards repeated on Sunday's national news talk shows what he's been saying for days: the state's hospitals may become overwhelmed due to rise in cases in New Orleans.

I am thinking these mega-churches are doing this for the money.

Fox reported last night that Louisiana’s numbers appear to be flattening out.

Anyone checking the gathering places of the members of the religion of hate? Betcha they’re disobeying too.

Fox is wrong. Louisiana has the 4th most state deaths reported so far today, right on the heels of New Jersey at #3. They aren’t flattening out yet.

When the number of cases increases, this can be very positive, as it waters down the death rate.

Irresponsible moron. I’d throw his stupid ass in jail and hold him personally responsible if any of these people dies because of his actions

Did he have the right under the First Amendment to do this?

Yes, absolutely.

Was it the right thing to do?

No, absolutely not.

Was it the Christian thing to do?

No, the Bible tells us to respect civil authorities.

It’s not his fault. He did NOT command them to go. Those idiots who actually went to the church are to blame. You do realize we all have choices ?

I’d give him a medal. “Champion of the Bill Of Rights,”.

Never let the state decide whether you can worship God. Never.

I attend a “mega-church”. They shut down immediately and services are on Facebook, Instagram, or their website. They are being very responsible.

They, and we, understand that the church is not a building.

We do NOT respect them at all costs. We are to disobey in many circumstances.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.

Worship is God’s. Not Caesar’s.

That’s funny, I just watched a podcast with a Cornell ICU MD whom stated that survivors go on to build a robust antibody response to COVID.

But he’s just a pulmonary guy on the front lines, right ?

Mardi Gras in New Orleans has an average attendance of around 1.4 million people each year. Church attendance is a drop in the bucket, and a lot cleaner (at least in the churches I know)

Quarantine laws have been enforceable in the US since the 1640s. Many SC cases support them.
