Fox News contributor Andrew Napolitano, a former judge, recently penned an article with the provocative title Coronavirus fear lets government assault our freedom in violation of Constitution.
Although Napolitano is right to be concerned, President Donald Trump and other federal, state, and local officials appear to be acting within the bounds of the Constitution in responding to the severe threat posed by spread of the new coronavirus disease, which health officials call COVID-19.

” We even got an email from our private gun club this morning saying theyve closed all the ranges. The place is 300 acres and its almost impossible to get within 6 feet of anyone when shooting.”
My range is closed to the public but members can still use it.
“I think we are going to need to seriously visit this topic when this crisis is over.”
Perhaps this is an instance of where our Federal form of government shows its genius. If three governors restrict their citizens’ movements and 47 don’t, we’ll know that there’s something fishy going on. If on the other hand 47 restrict movement, then maybe there is something real happening.
I’m judging this from the perspective of what is happening around the world, not just here in the US. If all of Europe locks down, most of civilized Asia, even India, then maybe it’s not just a few power-mad dem state governors. Maybe it’s something real and something really scary.
I hope that a vaccine and treatment are developed as rapidly as this Wuhan virus has hit and that we’ll be able to stem the tide. On the other hand, long before we were born, our ancestors coped with repeated visitations from the plague and their nations, cultures, traditions survived.
Ours was still open to members until this morning.

“I still lay all of this on not enough testing being done on samples of the general population”
Are you insane?
I guess you think the Nazi tactics at US airports used on AMERICAN CITIZENS traveling in their own country is justified?
The problem was letting INFECTED PEOPLE into the US.
Stop that, and this shiite doesn’t happen.
This Wuhan Crapola didn’t start here. It started over there.
The LIB Run Sanctuary Shiite Hole cities did this.
Don’t EVER forget that.
He is as credible as Avanatti.
This is the slippery slop to socialism. The empty shelves is one of the things to get use to. It took them 3 times but they got Trump this time.
Right. And what’s the definition of “emergency” and who says so?
Is an emergency a bunch of hysterical predictions by some British guy, or is it actual quantifiable threat that warrants the level of action we’re experiencing?
A: you missed the point. The epidemiological models need quality data to get their parameters right. CDC have not done that. Good data for model parameters are desperately needed to allow the gov’ts to make informed decisions.
B: infected peeps have already long been admitted. The gov’ts are NOT working to contain and snuff out the virus.
It’s here and it’s going to spread until it burns out. It’s only a question about the velocity.
C; In these days of the ‘net and virtual reality, air travel is not essential except in a few instances.
I don’t think any true Trump voter will be swayed by this.
His ratings are the highest ever, but there are those who say they should be higher after something like this.
It will depend on how the next seven months play out, and whether people can keep their wits about them.
As to the empty shelves, things are starting to get back to normal around here. Our medium-sized family-owned grocery store in town was once again fully stocked in all aisles yesterday, and the Walmart near where I work has improved its stock since last week. But there are still gaping holes on the paper products, hand soap, rubbing alcohol, and acetaminophen shelves there.
First Amendment: “peaceably assemble.”
That’s a perfected right.
Yes, a proven carrier of typhoid can be legally quarantined.
Millions of healthy Americans? I Dont think so.
Forbidding worship services?
Forbidding people to earn a living?
Forbidding free movement?
Forbidding freedom of assembly?
Declaring that rent doesnt need to be paid?
All this and more totally illegal in my opinion.
What is the definition of emergency?
Another important legal question.
Can a given governor or mayor declare a climate emergency or utilize the latest flu season to suspend the Bill of Rights?
