it truly is astounding how much info Freepers have collected on these threads. And it’s been more than once, watching the news, DH and I have said to each other - we were talking about that a week ago! Or two weeks ago! It really takes the fear factor down to have such a well-informed and smart FRamily :)

I’m betting, hoping, that from now on, there will be stricter controls on who works in nursing homes, who owns them, and travel quarantines for returning vacationers who work in public contact or want to visit residents. At 6K/month avg cost (out here anyway) seniors, rehabbers and the disabled should get more peace of mind and a lot more value for dollars spent on their care. Not only for the residents but for the workers themselves.

Corporate disabled care, the days of profiteering off of America’s seniors, is going to meet Reconstruction, Trump-style. And that will be a good thing.

MOUNT AIRY, Md. —
Dozens of nursing home residents in Carroll County have tested positive for coronavirus, state and county health officials announced Saturday.

OH, SH*T. This is my town!

How about automatically prescribing HCQ + Z-pac when testing positive. As Trump said, what do we have to lose?

well, apologies, but I was trying to keep it generalized. If your contract isn’t going to be renewed (and it might, see govt program on loan forgiveness if ppl keep their ppl), then apply for UE now. You can research your state’s inventiveness on how they will handle gig workers. Or if you have to do the self-employed, see your bank, route.

Ours is a client based business also, manufacturing, and we’re finding it difficult and dangerous to travel. Hotels, rental cars, flights. Not to mention a few are months out on payments. But that’s widgets for ya. So you’re not in a boat alone, my FRiend.

I can’t say much else but hope some of my optimism and get-er-done attitude rubs off a little. This is not long term reality. Trust yourself. Find a way. Stay calm and scream later. That’s what Americans are made of.

The stuff is now in my town (Mt. Airy, MD), so I’ll probably either get it somehow or be asked to quarantine sooner or later.

Will you be able to get unemployment? Some people claim the $600/week is too high and will dissuade work, but I think it’s appropriate, since it could also cover medical bills if you get Wu Flu.

I'm tracking down another opportunity inside the company. I've been around for 28 1/2 years. I was recruited to rescue this project in early 2018. It's going to production soon. The customer was more than happy to throw another 60 days coverage to ensure it was pulled across the finish line.

This COVID-19 has impacted my company. Fortunately, my team is 100% telecommuters, so we didn't notice an impact beyond slower networks. I had a need to visit a site in Ogden, UT to get a government furnished laptop authenticated to the network. That's not happening now with the quarantines. I'll box the laptop and send it back to the east coast.

My next engagement may be managing group in San Diego. That will take some onsite visits due to the nature of the work. I'll make it work...quarantine or not.

I've not been employed a single day since age 16. I'm not starting now. The $600/week wouldn't begin to cover my financial requirements. That wouldn't even cover my healthcare and life insurance premiums...nevermind my wife's somewhat costly diabetes supplies.

If I have the misfortune to get the WuFlu, it's likely a death sentence. My wife will have a good insurance payout. Both houses are mortgage free. C'est la vie (or la mort).

you might want to read this paper from yesterdays’ thread:
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2763843

Whether Covid-19 can infiltrate the heart of an otherwise healthy, but infected person and cause arrhythmias or no, giving that person two medications that separately may cause arrhythmias, and together may enhance each other, could be a fatal event without direct in-hospital observation. Maybe for 80% there’d be no problem but with others...lights out

https://health.usnews.com/best-nursing-homes/area/md/pleasant-view-nursing-home-215268

“Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy, MD, has a short-term rehabilitation rating of Below Average and a long term care rating of Average. It is a medium facility with 104 beds . . .”

Only 104 beds and 66 cases. That’s a really bad sign. It’s no wonder they are rated as below average.

Well this supposedly is a video of an Asian biomedical worker suiting up to fight Covid-19. Wow. N95 plus surgical mask. Two masks. That probably is the non faceshield way to suit up. Notice airtight eyeglass goggle covers. Anyone guess what country this was shot ? China ? Singapore ? Japan ? SK ? Corona Suitup ?

The surgical mask over the N95 is to afford some protection for the harder to get N95. They reuse both probably.

When I do my weekly shopping (for elderly folks mostly) I wear a N95 and googles, hat, trench coat. Seattle area. Take a shower as soon as I’m done cleaning all of the groceries.

If it weren’t for taking care of the elderly folks, I would just stay home.

Wish it were so!

WV is the recreational outlet for wash D.C. metro area. Lots of summer homes, cabins, etc. Out of state plates hitting all the local groceries. We have small Food Lions, older, small Walmarts. Wife reported all fresh fruits and vegetables wiped out. Native West Virginians Do Not Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Against their religion.

Local trash company reports a huge surge in demand in new service requests from summer home areas. Our local, small health clinic just went to telehealth only. No more in person appointments. Emergencies go to the hospital. The only one testing for Covid -19 40 miles away. Call ahead for admission clearance first to ER nurse.

On the positive side, our county and two adjoining counties are still case free (for now). Locals think the first will be one of the new comers. Our small farm food supply we grow each year is fine. Have fresh squash, potatoes, garlic, frozen and canned foods up the ying yang. Gourmet meals every day. First lettuce and kale seedlings in the ground. I even have kale and collards that overwintered by themselves ready to cut. Wife has all her herbs going. Getting up to six eggs a day from the hens. Wife says I have to go catch some trout from the stream out back for supper tonight.

Plum, and peach trees in bloom, pears and cherries right behind. You walk by and see the bees working the bloom. You can’t help but inhale the smell of the perfumed air. Wife has to put supers on the hives today as the autumn olive is about to bloom which will fill up the frames. Fingers crossed no hard frosts, the locust bloom should be spectacular. She promised last year to make locust jam ( have to climb the trees though and compete with the bees). Dandelions a-bit late.wife puts them in her salad, garbles a couple of buckets for dandelion wine, and gathers violets for her honey and toast.
