One reason for the ‘it’s the flu, it’s not the flu’ dithering is the flu statistics are a dumpster fire themselves.

there was a reason why China forced people to wear masks and arrested them if they didn’t

just because you have a PhD doesn’t mean you can’t learn something new. If you don’t believe that you’re not so bright.

I simply cautioned you about extrapolating on data. Then you threw the PhD card. Kind of like liberals throwing the race card. You know more than me, or so you imagine. Like I said, carry on PhD.

PS - R-squared, the square of the fit residuals, will grow, not decrease, once your curve breaks. That’s when your poly breaks down. The poly trajectory is less steep than the exponential trajectory, so when it breaks to fewer cases, going exponential is the wrong direction. You don’t even understand the basic math behind the excel formulas. A common mistake for most people who become excel experts, but for a studied PhD, a sign of over confidence or a failing education system.

CDC guidance on masks expected to change in next 10 days.

Well, bust-a-cat! In 10 days, the spread of the virus will have doubled three times...the level of incompetence, or lack of urgency, leads one to believe it's intentional.

The incompetence and lack of urgency has been an international plague—normalcy bias is very hard to overcome...

Just look at the posters here on FR—normally smart folks have been turned into raving idiots by this virus.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that because you studied engineering, that you have any kind of understanding of the life sciences or the mathematics that we use.

You're using it all wrongly...not you're fault though, as you've been brainwashed to stay within the lines. I've seen many brilliant people absolutely terrified to even consider anything outside of what some AH of a professor drilled into their skulls - the professors themselves suffering from the same institutional paranoia.

normally smart folks have been turned into raving idiots by this virus.

Our institutionalized educational system has robbed many of their natural creativity and willingness to think for themselves or outside the box they've been coerced into.

Doctor: Elmhurst Residents Are Contracting COVID-19 at an Alarming Rate
March 28, 2020, By Michael Dorgan

Elmhurst has become the epicenter of the coronavirus with many residents being infected, according to a doctor who has worked at Elmhurst Hospital for 20 years and has dealt with a flood of patients this month.

The physician, who did not want to be named, said that the first patients to come down with coronavirus and go to the hospital reside in the immediate area.

She said that the hospital soon struggled to keep pace with the influx and most people carrying the virus were sent home because their life was not in danger. Furthermore, this started happening before the city shut down.

She said that many of the infected people would then walk the streets of Elmhurst– some without masks and gloves– and then return to their densely populated homes carrying the virus.

What are your thoughts on the below. I found it on the net a few weeks ago, but no real corroboration. It is purported to head off a cytokine storm.

My question would be, while the OTC meds themselves are harmless normally, how do you know that you want to be slowing down your immune response? I've read you are looking for a "golden mean" with the immune response, i.e. not to slow, to allow the virus to multiply, and not to fast to cause the cytokine storm.

How would you know that a cytokine storm was indeed occurring?

You need to go to the store and buy one of these: Pepcid, Tagamet, Adix, or Zantac.  Buy enough enough to last 2 weeks.  This covers your H2 antagonist drug.

Buy enough Prilosec, Prevacid. or Nexium to do the same as above.  This covers the PPI Drugs. (Proton Pump Inhibitors)

Buy enough benadryl or generic benadry. aka... diphenhydramine to last two weeks. This covers your need for a H1 antagonist.

Rhode Island’s governor calls to quarantine New Yorkers to stop the COVID-19 spread
49 mins ago

The governor of Rhode Island is taking extreme measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in her state by sending law enforcement officers door-to-door to quarantine New York residents.

The effort is to stop the spread of the coronavirus to Rhode Island residents by people who were in the epicenter of the viral disease. The number of confirmed cases in the Ocean State reached over 200 as of Friday which pales in comparison to the over 26,000 in New York City.

Americans will be advised to wear masks in everyday life.

And all the "you don't need a mask" advice was some of the most bogus ever directed toward the American public. It was about as believable as if they'd told us: don't buckle your seat belts. They won't protect you from every type of accident.

Many here still do not comprehend that this lockdown helped keep the numbers down. It boggles my mind. We need to give them time to find a cure..get hospitals supplied and ready.

If this peters out as summer hits we will be ready for when it whips around again

I wonder if he was HIV positive.

I’ve wondered two things.

HIV positive people may have lower immune cell counts, so that works against them.

HIV positive people may also be on some of the really good new antiviral regimens which might be preventative or lead to a much milder course of disease.

Are we going to be cautioned to wear masks during flu season from now on?

That'd be my guess. And I'm guessing 10 days is needed to make sure they get the wording right after revisions and sign-off from all levels and outside agencies has been completed. You know, the normal red tape needed to cover their collective asses.

They lied because it was all about THEM not having enough masks.

I am so ticked off about this I can’t see straight. I am directly affected by their crap recommendations as my husband’s nor my son’s places of work allowed them to wear masks. But yet they have to stay open as “essential” services. Well my husband does. My son’s work shut down yesterday, but only because someone o pen his crew likely has cv.
