A Cruise Ship With At Least 77 People with Flu-Like Symptoms on Board is Heading to Florida
TIME ^ | March 26, 2020 | Sanya Mansoor

Posted on 03/26/2020 11:20:27 AM PDT by Capt. Tom

A cruise ship carrying at least 77 people with flu-like symptoms on board is on its way to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to a statement from the cruise line. The ship, MS Zaandam, intends to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Monday, March 30 but cruise line Holland America notes that “plans are still being finalized.”snip

Zaandam left Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7 on a trip that was supposed to end in San Antonio, Chile on March 21 — but that route was disrupted over coronavirus concerns. Holland America announced on March 13 that it would suspend its global cruise operations for 30 days “due to the continued port closures and travel restrictions surrounding COVID-19 and in an abundance of caution.”

I don’t a know why a cruise starting country and supposed to end in a foreign country needs to stop in our country, with all that sickness....

3/26/2020
MIAMI, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard is working to evacuate multiple crew members aboard Costa Magica and Costa Favolosa that have respiratory symptoms consistent with pneumonia and bronchitis.

After consulting with the ship's doctors, local, state, and federal health officials, 13 crew members between both ships may need to be evacuated and taken ashore, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Sector Miami, issued an order to both ships to remain three miles offshore and to refrain from any personnel transfer operations while Unified Command works to get sick crew members onshore.

The cruise ships will be taking crew members ashore with small boats, according to the Coast Guard. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue will help take sick patients to local hospitals.

As I write at 930 pm edst, the zaandam has stopped
the rotterdam is closing in on it
this is like the sci-fi movies where a rescue ship meets a space craft.

We need updates as to passengers being moved from one ship to the other, in the middle of the ocean.

earlier press release:
Holland America Line is sending another cruise ship with supplies and COVID-19 test kits to meet the Zaandam, which has been turned away from several countries due to coronavirus fears.
No one has been off the ship since March 14 in Punta Arenas, Chile., the Rotterdam will rendezvous with Zaandam to provide extra supplies, staff, COVID-19 test kits and other support as needed. Carrying 611 crew and no guests, Rotterdam departed Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on March 22.

I am surprised that cruise ships are capable of ship-to-ship transfers.
Maybe a helicopter assist???

The transfers will be done by the many lifeboats available on both ships.-Tom

Ford, of course. No question about it.

Old joke:

90% of Chevys ever built are still on the road today. The other 10% made it back home.

I loved the book the Dancing Wuli Masters, and it did help me understand many physics concepts without doing all the math. LOL

As far as a “unified theory”, I consider we humans - all of us - to be in a kindergarten stage of understanding the universe. I have watched science all my adult life and observed that every time science completes opening a new window of discovery we find we have acquired new knowledge but also acquired a huge amount of new questions we did not have before.

At this stage when human’s open a door or window in science it’s like peeling an infinite onion.

I’ll leave a unified theory to G-d. LOL

Held up from passage through the Panama Canal.
...the canal Carter sold to China.
...the same China that’s not allowing foreigners into their country.
The same canal our navy uses?
...or do we we go around South America?

GOOD POST..., I just saw that on the Internet and you alertly beat me to posting it.

Elderly people dying on cruise ships was not that unusual in past cruises but is not as common today.

When COVID19 is involved and the rest of the passengers are held in captivity, with their cell phones , the story is hard to ignore. - Tom

We need updates as to passengers being moved from one ship to the other, in the middle of the ocean.

Earlier this week, the company sent a sister ship, the Rotterdam, to aid the Zaandam. It was originally meant to bring supplies and COVID-19 tests, but the company has since decided to transfer hundreds of passengers from the Zaandam to the Rotterdam in what it calls a “humanitarian mission

Tom here- They will move the 70 year plus elders who are in INSIDE cabins to the ROTTERDAM. - Tom

On Fakebook I just read that four Passengers are Dead.

Don’t know if it’s true.

Coronavirus, exciting and new
Come aboard, it’s expecting you
Coronavirus, it’s the newest Flu
With a cough, it infects you

Coronavirus, soon will be making another run
The Coronavirus promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure
Your mind on a Contagious Disease

Get Coronavirus from eating a Bat and a Mouse
You might find a Ventilator in Cuomo’s Warehouse
It’s Chinese!
It’s the Commies!

Where is Jack Jones when you need him?

Folks going on cruises right now gotta face the fact that they might very well have to quarantine for 1/2 a month when they dock back home- but hey- that’s 1/2 month vacation for free-

Now us old geezers need to pack additional prescription drugs , just in case the cruise is extended. - Tom

Just got a call from a person who wins a lot of free cruises with inside cabins, and no air fare.
She usually upgrades for a balcony cabin for a few hundred dollars.
. And has to pay her airfares.

She just received another free offer from Royal Caribbean Lines for a free September thru December ,2020. and an outside balcony cabin, plus a $200 credit in the casino.

Looks like it might be the start of the cruise lines starting to cut prices to get people onboard. -Tom

Yes - supply and demand works.

Would not surprise me if a “luxury” cruise line starts with ONLY outside cabins, and each with its own heat/air unit - no central air system for the cabins.
