Some good news - Trump’s rhetoric lately seems to be recognizing that this Coronavirus is overblown, relative to the economic damage of a lockdown. He is discussing suicides, apparently. Noteworthy that suicides per 100000 went up by about 4 or 5 (17 to 21, approximately) when the Great Depression started. If he thinks economy first he might save 10000 lives from suicide relative to a cost of a few thousand extra deaths due to Coronavirus.

Also note the next trick - almost all deaths will be attributed to Coronavirus over the next year but the death rate won’t change. The key is if a 90 year old dies of old age but has a posthumous positive test for Corona, then the cause of death will be Corona as opposed to old age. This is insidious and must be called out. It is one of the reasons for the large number of deaths attributed to Corona in Italy.

Did hear that there might be someone that someone knows who has an elderly relative in a nursing home in Italy and that guy might have it.

In my neighborhood, kids are playing (when it isn't raining), dogs are being walked, neighbors are chatting over fences. Many of us take daily trips to the little strip mall on the edge of the neighborhood to support the small business there (most owned by LEGAL immigrants) that are operating as best they can. People are upbeat and creative.

BTW, it doesn't really matter if Italian medical records (aka death certificates) have been overstating CV as long as they *have always been overstating CV*. IOW, it's the pattern is what's relevant, not actual numbers. (In terms of this analysis, not capacity limits, resource planning, etc.)

What's absolutely critical is that with Italy we have a highly granularized picture looking out 8 days ahead of US; this pattern is key. Really, if one wanted to stake their reputation, you could claim the 8 day leading indicator is all that really matters:

It’s looking like the mortality rate is going to settle in somewhere between 0.4-0.7%. That is very significant and serious. But nowhere near the 4-5% they pitched at Trump when he agreed to the shutdown.

We have no clue what the mortality rate is. But we do know it’s not anywhere near as high as advertised.

What we know is that we have absolutely zero clue how many people are actually infected. That would take comprehensive universal mandatory testing. That isn’t being done. That wont be done. So what we do have is a number pulled out of the ass based on just what the medicals have gotten around to testing. There is no way in hell that accurate percentages can be built off of that. GIGO.

What is also known is that nearly *every* death is getting listed as “covid-19 related” even if the virus had nothing to do with the death.

And we know that there are those infected with TDS in decision making positions that are doing everything they can get away with to make matters worse.

So, at a functional level, those still throwing around the official percentages brayed from the idiot donkey mouths of the “professionals” at this time might as well just settle in and listen to NPR for their news and views.
