Agreed. Daniel,are you a DUmmy?

I am in the "Yes, too extreme" camp, but this poll is not simply for FReepers (though it seems from comments I have seen that a whole lot side with the "Not too extreme.." side), but I wanted to give FReepers the first crack at it.

So far it is about 80% in the "Yes, too extreme" side, thank God.

thanks. don’t do polls or surveys as a rule (except to fool the leftist enemy), but the results here are so far heartening.

It’s been in the news since late January, when it was noted that people taking hydroxychloroquine as an antimalarial drug weren’t contracting the virus on the cruise ships. It’s gradually gotten more and more attention, and we do have peer reviewed studies now...but come on. By the time quarantine hit the U.S. this was established.

Yes, it has been news since late January but all my posts were from just today. Momentum.

Yeah sorry, my answer, which is not present for me to select, is at this point in time no. The CDC was totally unprepared to deal with a severe respiratory virus such as this. As such, this pause is needed for CDC to catch up to where they should have been when the U.S. started getting cases. They had time to prepare as they had at lest some warning that a virus was known to be in China.

To their defense, China lied about all aspects of this virus, but they should have known that the CCP is perfectly capable and willing to lie if they so desire. WHO even covered up what was really happening as well.

One thing that should be taking place is the testing of all Americans, not just those with symptoms if they really want to knock out this virus quickly, or at least quicker. I agree with President Trump that the cure can not be allowed to be greater than virus itself, thus allowing damage to the economy which would be far worse.

But we need time to see what more we can learn about this virus. I think it was great that President Trump picked a date, and I know that if that date is approaching and it has become even worse, statistically, not numerically then we need to extend the pause, otherwise, we need to move on and open America for business.

One thing that concerns me is we have only had 374 recoveries so far. On the bright side 60 of those recoveries were in the last 24 hours. Hopefully with the #Trumppills the number of recoveries will start to occur more rapidly. I'm also hoping that warmer weather will also slow the transmission rate if not kill the virus outright.

This is very similar to SARS, which is why Covid-19 is also referred to as SARS2 Covid-19. One of the major differences is Covid-19 seems to spread much faster than SARS did, causing the number of sufferers of this disease to increase sharply in a short period of time.

We should all be saying prayers, for our citizens, our nation, and our president. It can't hurt, but is sure might help. 8>)

Doesn’t matter what we think, literally EVERY country that tries to play both sides ends up with extreme measures, starting with China.

But seemingly notoriously absent is a major country whose message could be very clear: “Emergency, everybody to get from street....Emergency, everybody to get from street...”

Anyone who thinks they are not strict enough is probably a Democrat or liberal. What they are saying is we want America to go kaputt. People will die whether we stay closed or whether we open. Their response will be more people will die if we open. They do not know nor does anyone at this point and will not know until virus runs its course. That will be scientific and not anecdotal. And the plus side is many people lived and some died while other side is many died and a few lived.

And the MSM will be advertising the number of daily infections which the Left will trumpet in order to blame the President and denigrate him while they present themselves as saviors of the poor and common man, as they hinder the recovery of the economy and businesses, from which they obtain the funds they abuse in order to get elected as saviors of those oppressed by businesses.

Rather, I think that few were keeping track of them and or reporting them. Tell me how the US can have only 392 recoveries now (3:08:56 PM Wed, 03/25/20) out of 62,805 cases and 884 deaths, while Canada has 3,547 recoveries out of 37,098 cases and 206 deaths.

I was watching it when it first began to hit China, because I buy things on kickstarter which often get manufactured in China if they fund. A problem which causes delays early in the year pushes things back until you wind up waiting through the month long Chinese new year celebration.

So I was watching this before people started dying from it, and I guess it irritates me that people didn’t start watching it at least after the cruise ships were quarantined because we should have stopped air travel with China at that point.

What they are saying is we want America to go kaputt

Actually I think many seem to think that the gov. money has unlimited funds and can give and give and never run out.

Almost assuredly more will die in the short term if we come out of "safe mode," but it is the long term cost vs, benefits that is the argument. My analogy is not that far off. Without marginalizing those suffering from Covid-19 and the need for prevention and treatment, for perspective consider,

About 6 million motor vehicle accidents happen every year in America, with over 6,000 per day suffering injuries or disabilities , and over 90 Americans a day dying as a result. Teens aged 16-19 experience motor vehicle crashes higher than any other age group, and are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash, yet drivers age 80 and older have the highest rates of driver deaths. The economic and societal harm from motor vehicle crashes amounting to a whopping $871 billion in a single year!

If this was comparable to the yearly consequences of COVID-19, and the cost of restrictions vs, benefits of freedom were equal, could we contend that henceforth travel should be restricted to only essential needs, and street distancing of 6 car-lengths should be practiced when doing so, and otherwise all motor vehicle are to be garaged-in-place until a solution (bumper cars?) is found to prevent this dangerous and often deadly viral-vehicle transmission.

The press will trash him no matter what, but the people are the ones who matter. This president is showing people that in tough situations, he is a steady hand at the helm. He is also showing that he is not focusing solely on the virus, he is focusing on what is best for this country and her citizens, period.

I think by April 12th we will have enough information to move forward. If the SHTF, then he may back off that date. Either way, I trust this president as I have no other in my lifetime.

Trust me he wants to move forward which is why he picked a date. Just that act alone has given a shot in the arm to the stock market.

No one has all the answers, and at this point in time no one can be sure what the answers will be to conquer this virus. It's a delicate balancing act right now, and I think he is doing a marvelous job in providing the needed balance. Those who are blinded to anything he does and just hate him because that is the cool thing to do, are lost causes anyway. The ones that matter are going to go to the poll and pull the lever for him.

I applauded Dr. Fauci for telling off the press in no uncertain terms that they are not helping to combat this virus by constantly trying to paint the picture that the two of them are at such odds that they cannot work together, and that they need to stop. People also took note of that as well.

Well that may be true, but it could also be false. We can only go by what we know. Hopefully the president has better numbers than we have. If we were to pull the trigger too soon that would just as damaging to his reelection bid. I will be voting for him regardless, because there is no leadership in the Democrat Party at all. In fact the party is loaded with nothing but evil people, and none of them care about us at all, regardless of the lies they tell saying that they do.

A lot of assumptions are being made according to the fear-driven fallacy of “better safe than sorry”. It’s a cute old saying, but in truth, we don’t know how safe or sorry an economic shutdown will make us.

There’s nothing at all wrong with President Trump’s admonition that we shouldn’t let the cure become worse than the disease - it’s a damn good point.

A virus can be deadly, but so can a severe economic downturn. Let’s assess probable outcomes and weigh our options rationally.

We ought to be able to have a rational conversation without all the name-calling and fallacious appeals to authority.

With the Democrat governors in charge of the shutdowns, we could be looking at a three month shutdown. Not two or three weeks.

Once they are given an inch... Having tasted the power of restrictions then there will be more calls by liberals to go radical in resisting Climate Change. Soon you will see comparisons of how many Covid-19 killed vs. Climate Change.
