This is an important observation that can't be repeated enough. Trump and his team will look at the data down to the state and county level to determine how we can return to work on a phased basis. You can still contain and mitigate the virus using good practices at the local level. If the data continue to show a lower and lower mortality rate, then we can adjust our public policy accordingly.
This is all on Florida’s governor.
“Does smoking put you at greater risk of the coronavirus? Scientists discover critically ill patients are more likely to be smokers - but one Chinese study finds they are LESS likely to get the killer infection in the first place”
I hoping for a vaping makes you less likely to catch it but not sicker when you do story.
omg, she’s worried about a dog, but throws a fit over JH’s father needing his son? JH has always been a rebellious spirit. And now yet another load of straw on an already overburdened camel’s back? This could get interestingly final.
BRILLIANT!
I have been reading zero hedge for many many years.
They have the full range of stories from brilliant to insanely stupid.
Buyer beware..but sometimes good stuff there.
They are usually at their best covering the financial markets, the federal reserve and other central banks, derivatives, etc.
when is Bill Gates going to say, the WHO missed its chance to avoid worldwide coronavirus shutdowns......and called the western world racist for trying to shut down immediately
We tend to allow the person ahead of us to take the elevator alone, and then we are next. There’s no rule about it.
I guess we just use hands. I always wash mine as soon as I get inside the apartment, and I guess everyone else does too.
Went out earlier today and discovered a wonderful fact: You can still get McDonald’s. You have to use a credit card at the kiosk and then they hand you the bag from a slight distance, all blocked off with yellow tape.
There’s a newish place that is still serving coffee but I tried it and I don’t like it much, so that’s the end of that.
Dry cleaners and hardware stores are open, along with the groceries. Liquor store was closed but I think they are allowed to be open.
Tokyo residents were asked to stay indoors this weekend after 41 new cases of coronavirus were announced today — a big jump over the previous daily Tokyo record of 17

I guess we can look forward to a temporary end to the greenie uproar over single-use plastics
Well, she was 65. That's a pre-existing condition itself. /millennial
A bigger, more ominous question than just PPE is: WTH was the CDC and every branch/dept. of the US Government doing between the Wuhan lockdown on Jan 23rd and the POTUS Emergency Declaration on Mar 13?
7 friggin’ weeks of nothing other than a ban on travelers from China.
No preparation actions whatsoever, and it’s showing in spades.
This is the time period when actual containment was possible, at least up to March 1st.
I’m enraged by it.
Even us knobs on FR could see fire on the horizon, and impending chaos. And we’re not paid to look for or see this stuff.
It looks like Spain is about to pass Italy as the new “hot spot” with these updated numbers:
Total Cases:
Italy 74,386
Spain 49,515
New Cases:
Italy 5,210
Spain 7,457
Total Deaths:
Italy 7,503
Spain 3,647
New Deaths:
Italy 683
Spain 656

A crime has been committed by Kaiser.
But give the FluBros who STILL think we’re overreacting, I’m beginning to think that Trump felt that an early, strong, response would kill him politically. If people can’t deal with this stuff now, imagine them having to deal with it a month earlier.
(and yes, I know that the measures could have been lighter then...but if so, they would have had to become harsher, anyway, per what’s happened elsewhere)
“WTH was the CDC and every branch/dept. of the US Government doing between the Wuhan lockdown on Jan 23rd and the POTUS Emergency Declaration on Mar 13?”
Right?! They should have started buying and making ventilators and PPE at the very least.
“But give the FluBros who STILL think were overreacting . . .”
FluBros aren’t just still thinking it, they are emboldened and feeling more right than ever. Righteously unconstitutionally deprived of their God given rights.
“The history of this disease has been rather clear.
First it is just a Chinese problem.
Then it is just an Italy problem.
Now it is just a metro NYC problem.
hmmmm......”
Yea, just wait until the virus hits the United States, then all hell will break loose.
The public/private partnership to generate masks, PPE, test equipment and lab supplies, ventilators etc. could have been in place—and would have been non-controversial.
In addition, FEMA and the National Guard could have been building field hospitals and putting supplies in place—again non-controversial.
