Very definitely off-label use, NOT for human consumption.
In fact, it has to be used somewhat sparingly around fish, at very low concentrations, or they go belly up too.
There are some things the human metabolism may NEVER grow accustomed to.

Reuters deliberately trying to making it look like the proven malaria drug killed the couple.

They each took a teaspoon of the stuff, with an unknown concentration. Maybe 15 times the regular dose.
The dose is everything. If I take 2 paracetamol or 2 aspirin, I’m fine. But if I take 30 of them, I am a dead man.
And this assumes that fish tank cleaner doesn’t contain any other poisonous substances.
