German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday that gatherings of more than two people will be banned in public to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Our own behavior is the most effective way of slowing the rate of infection, Merkel said of the unprecedented nationwide measures, which are initially slated to remain in force for two weeks.
The new restrictions were agreed on by Merkel and the leaders of Germanys 16 states in a telephone conference on Sunday.
Staying in public places is only permitted alone, with another person not living in the household or with members of ones own household, their resolution stated.
As of Sunday evening, there were a total of more than 24,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany, with more than 90 deaths.

What happens when one of the Siamese twins goes trans?
Yavol, Herr Merkle!
They’ve been doing that in Spain now for a week and just extended it until April 12th. So far it hasn’t slowed things down.
Oops, Spain has banned gatherings of more than One, not two. No walking in pairs, no riding together in cars, and it’s being enforced. When I go to the store or the Pharmacy I see checkpoints on my way to and fro. I can actually get away with it because my wife is in a wheelchair but if you aren’t taking a passenger to the emergency room you’ll get fined.
That was funny.
IIRC you are retired. So higher risk. How are things for you in your community?
I just returned from the supermarket. Everything is orderly, no panic, shelves are fully stocked except for face masks and hand sanitizer. Nobody is buying toilet paper unless they actually need it. Police were at the parking lot entrance making sure there was only one person per vehicle. They give you disposable gloves to put on, the kind you see in the produce aisles, before you go into the store and they expect you to keep 1 meter between customers in the checkout lines.
I have to get medicines for my wife. No shortages of any of them but there isn’t an over the counter cough or flu product to be found. That’s annoying because my wife does have a cold. She goes into occasional coughing fits and there isn’t anything I can give her for it. Other than that I have supplies stocked up that I am saving in case the stores do start to run out of things. Until then we are living off of what I pick up in my shopping trips, basically anything we would be eating normally.
Thanks for asking :-)
That’s good to hear. Stay safe!
