Turmeric, or curcumin, is being advocated by some medical experts for reducing lung inflammation amid the rising COVID-19 cases in India. The virus is especially known to attack the respiratory system.
Turmeric is being touted as the only way to keep inflammation in your body low so that you have a better chance of fighting the coronavirus infection.
In view of the current COVID-19 epidemic and the panic around it, medical experts have a few suggestions besides washing hands, not being in crowded spaces, etc., on how to boost the immune system and possibly minimize the symptoms as there is no cure for the disease.
Vaccines are at least two years away and there are no drugs on the horizon except Actemra, which is a biological drug that Roche had developed for arthritis.
Simple tricks to boost your immune system during coronavirus may help reduce the severity of the disease. One major thing that happens when you get infected is that one has a cytokine storm in the body.
Bad cytokines/hormones, especially IL-6 and TNF, rise that contribute to stress and organ failure during COVID-19 infection.
The pharmaceutical company Roche has dusted off an old drug, Actemra, which was developed for arthritis as it was shown to suppress IL-6. Tocilizumab (Actemra) is in a class of drugs called biologics.
Tocilizumab is a treatment for adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, giant cell arthritis, and polyarticular and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
Even if this drug is approved for COVID-19, it will cost at least $25,000-30,000 per patient. Nature has effective molecules for lowering IL-6 naturally: turmeric/curcumin, resveratrol and lutein.
Thanks but I plan to be cremated!
Yeah. I take curcumin to reduce inflammation from a herniated disc. It usually takes care of the problem so I don't need to go in for a prescription for steroids. Taking it with aspirin and black pepper increases uptake from your digestive system.
I have some turmeric in the cupboard. How much should a person consume?
My brother has been taking it for weeks knock on wood so far so good he takes it in capsules
Turmeric cures cancer, increases your lifespan and improves your sex life. I didnt list the other 958 benefits of turmeric.
I can help.
Curcumin, the active portion of turmeric, kills cancer stem cells, reduces inflammation, lowers blood sugar, improves artery function almost as much as exercise, etc.
You can buy it in a jar and not have to bother. with breaking open. capsules.
I read some time ago that turmeric was supposed help reduce psoriasis. I didn’t particularly like the taste, but I gave it a shot for a month or so, as I recall.
It did nothing for me.
[Regular UVB treatments keep the psoriasis at bay for me.]
ML/NJ
And it can also be toxic.
You are paying up the nose if you buy it this way. Go to an ethnic Indian goods store and pay pennies compared to McCormick products.
“Please dont make an ass of yourself on yet another thread tonight. “
ROTFLMAO!
Garbage is Garbage.
I sprinkle it on my eggs.
Many years ago some guy had an Ibizan Hound dying from Valley Fever [coccidioidomycosis] and the vets could do nothing.
I told him to give her turmeric and she was well again in a week.
Show dog...she had a litter of pups 4 months later.
Useful for some things, I reckon.
Also, taking it with fat helps.
“Its an anti-imflammitory, isnt it?”
Yep. There will be nay-sayers, but all I can say is, I started taking it for my plantar fasciitis, my aching hip, back and finger joints, and it helps a lot. I had my doubts but was desperate for some relief and wanted to get some function back. Took several weeks but then noticed the achey places weren’t so noisy and I was functioning better. Wow! I can walk the dog without being miserable! I’m not constantly aware of aches and pains. So I’m sticking with it.
So is MSM, [Methylsulfonylmethane] mostly used for joint pain.
It’s also a sulfur and few things have developed a resistance to an element, yet.
:)
Just put half or quarter teaspoon in rice to make yellow rice, It does not take much at all. Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric(among with many others) is responsible for the yellow color in prepared mustard. Don’t forget a pinch of black pepper, it greatly enhances bodily absorption.
Thank you!! Now to find rice at the store!!
Look up “Golden Paste”
Good job.
