A Chicago doctor on Friday issued some refreshing words of wisdom to frustrated and isolated Americans who are self-isolating: that if the mission is successful, it will feel like it was all for nothing.
Dr. Emily Landon, from University of Chicago medicine, joined Gov. J.B. Pritzker at a press conference to announce that the state of Illinois was going into shut-down aside from essential services.
She spoke animatedly about the challenges doctors and nurses are facing, and made a plea to Americans to heed the advice.
She also gave some stark warnings: that the people who need the beds after them, in two weeks time, need care, there will be no beds left.
Dr. Landon predicts that it will take at least another week for infection rates to slow down. It will take even longer for them to go down, and stop increasing, and even longer for them to stop.
Here is her speech, in full:
'I want to send my sincere gratitude and support to all of the healthcare workers in Illinois and around the world.
'Despite doing our best to prepare for a respiratory epidemic we now find ourselves facing a brand new virus with too little information. Not enough PPE, changing protocols every single day and no second chances.
'All of us are united in our efforts and agree with this course of action. We all acknowledge that this is the only way forward.
'This virus is unforgiving. It spreads before you even know you've caught it. It tricks you into believing that it's nothing more than a little influenza.

Wrap your minds around this: Triage is coming.
>>Senior doctor at acute trust:”...we are going to have to quickly agree some clinical thresholds for admissions to intensive care. This is what the Italians have had to do, and whether its set at 60 or whatever, we are going to have to do something similar.”<<

I agree with her. Since we don’t know we are taking extraordinary precautions which is the human thing to do. I would not want to be the leader who has the power to do these things and decided not to because I thought my ability to predict the future was better than others.
The first coronavirus cases emerged in Italy and the US at the same time. We are doing what we are doing so we do not squander the time that the early and unpopular steps taken by President Trump and others is not squandered and we just become the next Italy, which is in a horrible situation right now.
History will judge those with favor who can honestly say they did everything reasonably possible to avoid that.
The comments are brutal. Mostly along the lines of, bad choice under a looming pandemic, waiting to evacuate, and why insult at the same time you ask for help?
The doctors also can err on inciting. Remember, one half of the doctors were in the bottom of their graduating class. A recent Johns Hopkins study suggested their 250,000 die in the USA every year from “medical errors”. Other studies found “medical errors” to be the third leading cause of death after heart problems and cancer.
500 cases in michigan already Lower Michigan none in the Upper Peninsula of MI. Just waiting for the Lockdown to occur in MI. Just a matter of days.
Shes right. The number the worthless media doesnt talk about is how many walking contagious there are. The minimum is 10x the number of cases because 40-50% of the infected show no symptoms and 80% of rest have mild symptoms. Its probably 25x to 50x at this point. It wont drop to 0x unless everyone is quarried or were able to test everyone. We arent even doing temperature guns. Id estimate 1 out of 100 to 1 out of 1000 are infected in our city.
549 cases just got the updated report
See something, say something: Friend of my daughter is a nurse tech at Royal Oak Beaumont (north of Detroit). She called my daughter...daughter said she was panicky and never panics. 26 YO in with CoVid was admitted to her hospital. They are making entire floors for CoVid patients. I have never met this person. I’ve been at home for 3 days and feel fine...just me, my wife and our dog here getting old.
FYI
He’s going to regret his words in the coming months.
You are wasting your time posting this on FReeRepublic.
I hope with all my heart he is right!
No, she’s not.
I read it. I get all or most of my info from here. I appreciate every thread and link.
Yeah,me too. I’m thinking cheap gas and light traffic equals ROAD TRIP. If I can just reschedule my VA check up because “I’m askeered of the coronavirus”,I could make a circle of Texas and maybe a trip to Florida before the sheeple realize they’ve been played. All on free money from Uncle Sugar?
The great onslaught of the Corona monster is getting to feel like the indictments that are coming...always coming and coming and coming.
why the HELL didn't you isolate them 2-3 weeks ago?........why didn't you shut down nursing homes to visitors, and senior facilities, and all the places that seniors gather?...why weren't they told to self isolate in their homes?
medical “errors” could mean nothing more than using the wrong antibiotic or the right antibiotic in a patients who’s kidneys can’t handle it.......bad outcomes do not equal bad treatment....
My DIL is a Hospice nurse so things haven’t changed much with her. She’s an amazing lady with such a tender heart I don’t know how she does it.
I didnt run to the doctor or the ER because theres nothing they can do for me and I didnt want to expose myself to others. OTOH if I had progressed to SOB I would definitely have sought treatment, but otherwise I wouldnt be showing up at the ER and demanding a test to determine if I was ill. Its just common sense, which is why Im so confused about what Im reading. WTF do they want us to do exactly?
