Forget to add, due to declining population in West Virginia, many rural hospitals and clinics have closed. We have very little resilience in our hospital capacity. Due to our proximity to five other states, many go out of state for any kind of advanced treatment - to Winchester, Harrisonburg, even Richmond in the east, Cumberland and Pittsburgh in the north, similar places to Ohio and Kentucky in the west and south.

No real way to enforce shelter in place. On the good side neighbors will not let neighbors go hungry here.

I’ve been thinking I could spare a box (10) of N95 masks to our local hospital that had the first death and many CV patients. I reuse ours many times and decon them. But still have kids and friends that may depend on us for more. If I knew that the nurses and doctors were being as careful on re-using them, I might be willing to donate a box.

Or is that a fool’s errand? I could just see them using it for a day and then tossing it. (And to think, three weeks ago they were probably tossing them as they left each patient’s room!)

As stressful as it is for your wife, I bet she is glad to come home to a place where she doesn’t have to feel like she has to wash her hands every time she touches something!

Yes West Virginia schools are closed. Nursing home restrictions. Wife couldn’t believe that many kids could fit in just two cars, out fishing at a local fishing hole just downstream from us. Folks out everywhere.

On the good side, everyone, snd I mean everyone has guns here. There will be no tom o foolery.

LMAO. What a mature, educated post. Especially from a troll:)

Stop projecting, sweetheart.

Sorry, snowflake, but I will post whenever I want. Funny that I’ve never seen you on
FR.

Go back and hide under your rock, silly troll.

Thanks for the amusement!

I still don’t know what you mean by your statement: “You are already dead.”

I have a very powerful immune system. I rarely get sick, except for sinus infections.

A year ago, around this time, I did contract a bad case of Strep Throat, but that was due to an Oral Surgery that took a while to recover from.

My only problems are back and spine problems and a slight heart defect that I was born with.

Why are you so worried about the virus? I believe that if you think you will get sick, then you will get sick. A self-fulfilling prophecy, if you will.

Since this paranoia started, I have helped my mother prepare. I’ve helped her purchase food and other items. She is a paranoid person, so I’ve been one of the zombies who have purchased toilet paper, paper towels, etc. That is, when the stores actually have some in stock, which is rare.

I’m not causing any suffering for others, so don’t accuse me of something so absurd.

I fail to see how I’m “reckless”. I’m an introvert and don’t go to stores unless I have to. I much prefer the company of my two dogs and cat to the company of most people.

I know that I won’t become ill from this virus but, if I suspected that I was infected, I would happily isolate and quarantine myself from other people to protect them. So don’t you dare accuse me of being “reckless” or selfish.

As I stated before, it is very hot and humid here, so I doubt the virus can survive in our area.

I am angry at China for this mess. I hate that dumpster fire of a country. During the “Russia, Russia, Russia” insanity from the dems, I told many people that China was our most dangerous enemy, not Russia. Hopefully, now, they realize that I was correct.

I also hate China for torturing and cooking poor dogs and cats alive in their damnable markets.

But, I also hate and fear the erosion of our civil liberties during this paranoia. Are you not afraid of what this could lead to?

Are you not afraid that forcing businesses, especially small businesses to close, that we could experience another economic depression? And that could cause people to blame Trump and elect Biden (or Hillary)?

Many Americans will suffer financial disaster from the overreaction from the government. And that wouldn’t bode well for President Trump.

I would still vote for Trump, but many would not because they would blame him for the crumbling economy. The media would definitely be pushing that narrative.

Of course, people should use common sense and be cautious. Unfortunately, the hysteria is getting out of hand.

Nice: this meme, beyond the gratuitous profanity, implies that Taiwan is properly part of Red China. If we’re not supposed to trust China, and I don’t, maybe the mememaker should’ve started with a different image.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have a very powerful immune system. Getting a virus, any kind of virus, is the last thing on my mind.

At this moment, allergies are my only problem.

As I stated in another post, our hot and humid weather will help our State immensely.

Calm down. You are worrying about this thing too much. It’s not the Spanish Flu.

I will tell you one thing: If you constantly worry about getting sick, then you will make yourself sick.

Don’t worry; I already know about not taking ibuprofen. If a family member or an acquaintance becomes ill, I will make sure they know.

I refuse to live my life panicking over something I can’t control.

Have you considered Xanax?

No help for you. It is quite stunning..carry on...

Oh..and since you have such a strong immune system please volunteer. Lots of choices on the front line. You can tell them you dont even need a mask and gloves.

I bet that italian dr who died while not having gloves wishes he had your immune system

Just got a phone call from my sister. She is panicking now, they only have two weeks of food and the store shelves are emptying out.

Both her and her daughter are high risk when it comes to the virus.

Her husband has a Just A flu attitude. I warn them the last week of Jan, and first part of Feb. They kind of blew me off telling me taking me they were prepared.

I told her they are going have to drive out of their area to find food.

Yeah, I can understand the Just A Flu, but when states go into lockdowns and there is a run on groceries, it doesn’t matter if it’s Just A Flu.

I know. I meant in terms of cooling the air, so virus is not being affected by the head and humidity.

“Fresh evidence suggests that human carriers from China spread the Wuhan virus around the world.”

Of course they did, but it wasn’t a secret either, starting in mid-Jan as they were showing up around the world. The question really is whether governments took the virus seriously. As far as I can see, that only happened in very rare cases (Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and El Salvador).

And then what would have been the ‘right way’ to deal with it? Even today, with the virus exploding throughout the US, as many people are mad at Trump for doing too much, as are supporting what he’s doing...and it’s crossing party lines (on our side, it goes like this: “If I want to do stupid things and get infected, it’s my business”, my response is fine, just don’t go the hospital when you get sick). Had Trump started a month earlier, literally the entire country would have thought he was out of mind, panicking, and out of control.

My (sad) conclusion, like Pearl Harbor, this country needed a gut-punch to even start to wake us up and be willing to take the steps needed to prevent the loss of the US as we know it, and whether by screwing off or by design, we now have just that.

This may be way beyond your pay grade but let’s try.

Positing generalized societal risk from one’s personal experience is foolish and may be dismissed out of hand.

Let’s try this. Take the expected infection rate of your state. Of those infected assume 50 % are asymptomatic. Of the remaining infected assume 20 % need hospitalization. Compare this to existing hospital beds in your state.

Post justification and documentation for the first assumption and any changes in the others.

Math may not be your strong suit so ask here for help.

Or better, use Cuomo’s numbers as a worst case and adjust from there.

Now adjust once again for two scenarios - one under total lockdown and the other under voluntary “please stay off the beaches and keep six feet apart and wash your hands” scenario.

If you won’t do the math is pretty much proves you are an attention bore - aka AOC - and you should quarantine yourself to the flubros forum as a flubra (their name not mine).

If you don’t care about the results you are a misanthrope, again much like AOC.

“Until then you will be the problem that infects and kills people.”

And FILLS UP our hospitals so that people who play by the rules and get sick for other reasons, can no longer get care.

“My guess we have something very bad going to happen to the country, they did not want the public to panic. It is going to be very scary the next couple of weeks.”

Amazon is hiring 100,000 people, Walmart 150,000 people. I can understand increasing staffing somewhat, as people stay home for Coronavirus reasons, but not to that level. And also the companies can prioritize critical items (including food), and put X-Boxes and Vagina Hats on the backburner, for now.

My conclusion - they’ll be doing widespread deliveries, and the reason being that people will no longer be permitted in their stores (for Walmart, obviously). AND, that will be due to our upcoming lockdown - so be ready, if you have a generator, it might be a really good time to top off fuel supplies, etc. Probably the next month will be a rough ride here.
