If ever there was a need for a government-sponsored temporary employment project now is the time. President Trump should authorize a shovel-ready jobs program for those Americans who need help to finish building the wall along the US-Mexican border. This would do two things that are needed. The first of which is to address the national security issue of stopping the corona virus from entering the country from the south. The second is to provide economic support for those who need work. It would seem to me that with all of the compassion coming forth from democrat governors all across the nation who are simply shutting down their states economies in the name of stopping this virus from taking hold that such a proposal to enforce their abilities to do so by completing the border wall would be well received.
In addition to the border wall completion, Trump should propose to establish economic development zones along the border which would offer tax incentives as well as a minimum wage of $7.00 per hour along the border to attract new manufacturing away from China. Current illegal immigrants across the country would happily return themselves to their native country if allowed to live in Mexico and work across the border in one of these zones. All investments would be from the private sector and would give folks a chance to invest in a can't miss business opportunity having the protection of the United States, cheap labor, and direct rail or interstate access to the largest market in the world. This would address our supply chain problem as well as the employment problem as illegals leave their current areas inland opening job opportunities for others.
In addition to these proposals, Mr President, please consider forming an education task force that will study the concept of converting our outdated, brick and mortar, classroom education approach to this new and improved "online" from home approach the the schools are all instituting as an admission that it can be done. It seems to me that we've sorta let the cat out of the bag on this and it should not be made easy for the education establishment to put it back in. Bussing, school buildings, large administrative cost, and thousands of teachers are no longer needed to educate our children. You just need to find a few of the BEST teachers and have THEM create online curriculum and let all of the other teachers self contract themselves out as tutors to the homes that need their assistance. The schools say it can be done now for a little while. Please see if we can make this a permanent transition.
I agree.
Makes too much sense; therefore, it will never fly.
Dont say ,Shovel ready now!!!
I agree we must change our educational system back to teaching History, per se, math for all students, chemistry and physics in high school and so on.
We should all thank Jesus that you are so much smarter than Trump .
Perhaps for digging graves for unwelcome invaders
Finish? It's barely started hasn't it?
So what would these people actually be doing in building the wall?
Yes!
Stop the spread....build the wall, Mr President!
Send those idle folks to the border.
Plenty of open space for social distancing.
139 miles finished. 207 in process, another 400+ in planning phase
If we dealt with the border invasion properly there would, indeed, be some shovel ready jobs short term and none after.
Another would be to set up groups to work with BP along the border.
incentives as well as a minimum wage of $7.00 per hour along the border to attract new manufacturing away from China.
Are you nuts. Construction jobs pay $15 plus across the country. Why would someone go to the border for $7 per hour?
I understand your point. Many would prefer living in their home country if given a decent opportunity to do so. These folks would self remove themselves from where they might currently be located further north and head home. If you want to compete with the labor cost available to sweat shop countries you have to strike a happy medium.
You are just jealous that you didn't think of it first. Admit it.
I’d wager that if it becomes necessary and can be a viable option, President Trump already has someone thinking about it and going through potential logistics.
