It lowers the payroll in the event of a shortened season.
One of the most confusing titles published this year. It seemed like an archeological dig mired in regulations.
Payroll dump? Doesn’t seem prudent to let him go, he’s a solid WR.

I kind of like the Bills. So I want them to succeed. This move cost them a king’s ransom in draft picks. Hope he’s enough to put them over the top in a Tom Brady-less division to make it worth it.
Diggs has the potential to be a game-changing WR. He also has the potential to poison your locker room and embarrass the coaches on the sideline during a game. Which makes him, simply, a pain-in-the-ass.
The Vikes really needed to get their cap situation under control. This move plus the contract reconfiguration for Cousins are smart moves.
Kinda dumb on the Bills part. They could have picked up a receiver either in free agency or in the draft. Giving up all those draft picks? Diggs is good but hes not Jerry Rice. Oh well...
And yet all the Texans could get for DeAndre Hopkins was a second-rounder and a lame running back. Bill O’Brien is a moron.
Brilliant move by the Bills. Diggs is an elite receiver who is under a long term contract with numbers which will look better and better as time goes on.
Diggs is a proven receiver. No one knows how any of the wide receivers in the draft will turn out. IOW, a number one pick for a young elite receiver, guaranteed.
With Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley, not to mention the highly promising tight ends, QB Allen will finally have the weapons he needs to be the elite QB he will be.
The Bills had extra picks in the 5th and 6th rounds, so they are still choosing in those rounds. What they gave up in picks is trivial compared to the improvement in their offense.
Like a lot of people, Diggs could not stand Cousins. We don’t know the details, but he played brilliantly DESPITE having to work with Cousins. In the Bills, he will be getting on a friendlier team, and the connection with Allen will be an awesome surprise to many.
The Vikings are significantly weaker as a result, but they had a choice of choosing Diggs or Cousins, and they choose Cousins. They will be doubting that choice for a long time.
BTW, folks comparing this to the Walker trade simply do not know what they are talking about.
Here is a challenge to anyone who made that comparison: compare the two trades in this thread, and explain how they are even superficially alike. That means, at the very least, specifically stating the draft picks involved.
That challenge will NOT be undertaken by anyone here.
