OK, here are my questions. We had a perfect petri-dish coronavirus disease (COVID-19) experiment with the cruise ship Diamond Princess. Thats the cruise ship that ended up in quarantine for a number of weeks after a number of people tested positive for the coronavirus. I got to wondering what the outcome of the experiment was.
So I dug around and found an analysis of the situation, with the catchy title of Estimating the infection and case fatality ratio for COVID-19 using age-adjusted data from the outbreak on the Diamond Princess cruise ship (PDF), so I could see what the outcomes were.
As you might imagine, before they knew it was a problem, the epidemic raged on the ship, with infected crew members cooking and cleaning for the guests, people all eating together, close living quarters, lots of social interaction, and a generally older population. Seems like a perfect situation for an overwhelming majority of the passengers to become infected.
And despite that, some 83% (82.7% 83.9%) of the passengers never got the disease at all

Half of the 17% of passengers infected had no symptoms at all.
Good catch. Thanks.

Because it is not nearly as deadly and dangerous as all of the Panic mongers say it is. I believe months and years from now when all of the numbers finally come out and are crunched the WHO and alarmists will have egg on their face over this. There will be hearings with the CDC heads where they will be gulping glasses of water placed on green felt tables in Congress while dodging questions.
“PLEASE LOOK AT ITALY!”...they scream
This has been on my mind a lot in the last few days.
The early spin was that you could spread the disease without having the disease.
Now it's becoming more apparent that many people have the disease, but it's so mild they hardly notice the symptoms.
Many times, I'll wake up with a slight sore throat or a slight case of the sniffles. Usually it's because the night before I went outside to do something (like put the trash bins out) without putting on a coat. During the course of the morning the symptoms disappear, and I don't think any more about it.
I'm wondering if a lot of people (like half, by my reading of this article) who get coronavirus show no more symptoms than that. They hardly notice it, and don't think anything of it.
Thank God our administration is looking at Italy, listening to the doctors there, and trying to mitigate here while preparing for 3 weeks from now
The official numbers for the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship:
Confirmed: 696
Deaths: 7
Recovered: 325
Active: 364
“And despite that, some 83% (82.7% 83.9%) of the passengers never got the disease at all”
So millions are going to suffer huge financial loss and we may end up with a rat POTUS who will bring more misery than we cam imagine because of a disease with an infection rate of 17% under ideal conditions. MSM’s demise is greatly exaggerated.
And it’s up to us to make our representatives feel the heat.
Anybody who thinks this is a hoax should go volunteer in a hospital for the next two weeks.
“the epidemic RAGED (emphasis my own) on the ship”
Seriously? Hyperbole much?
There is a hospital in italy where 100% of patients with cover 19 on ventilators have died and they don’t know why. Things like that ARE scary.
As the testing around here (Eastern King County Washington, coronavirus central) really takes off, they are going to find that it was passed around for weeks before anyone realized something was up.
“when all of the numbers finally come out and are crunched the WHO and alarmists will have egg on their face over this.”
Don’t count on it. The “numbers that finally come out” will be numbers they provide/invent — and isn’t that convenient? There’s NFW they’ll tell the truth if the truth reflects badly on them.
Covid 19 - danged spell check
My husband volunteers at a nearby hospital. He thinks it — the overreaction — is a hoax.
Possibly to inflate the CVD-19 numbers for the U.S.?
