No urinals but it has a maternity ward. Smaller crew, more chicks. That’s gonna help a lot for damage control

Getting new weapons technology fielded has always been painful.
We will be better for it in the long-term after going through this now, painful as it may be.

(I think the LCS has been an exception to this - painful AND we are no better for having endured it).

"I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your president by your ballots, and so I ask you to confirm me as your president with your prayers."

Well at least the fleet doesn't have to wait in line at the fuel dock like our Carter class vessels.

Can that ship be re-named the Obama?

The new name would fit a new “motto”: “Promise much; deliver little.”

The higher the tech, the greater the likelihood of it breaking. Not a great situation for a warship.

Let’s see, littoral ships and now the Ford don’t look like shining examples of US Navy technology integration.

Rename the tub “USS Obungo”

“The Nations First Politically Correct Aircraft Carrier”

Guaranteed to bring politically correct war to a politically correct enemy who discriminates against women, abortion, and gay rights.

Where did the steel come from? How about parts and equipment? Was anything made in the US?

Ford Class Of Supercarriers May End After Four Ships, Navy Eyeing Smaller Carriers: Report

The Navy has put together a task force to report back in six months on what America's carrier force should look like from 2030 on.

BY TYLER ROGOWAY MARCH 7, 2020

One of the hottest debates in the world of defense procurement and strategy surrounds the role that aircraft carriers will play in the future, one in which their ability to operate within striking distance of enemy shores is increasingly questioned. This issue has many facets, including air wing composition, the physical size of the carriers themselves, their propulsion type, shipbuilding capacity, force size, and more. Price is also a huge factor. With the troubled Ford class supercarrier topping out at around $15B for a single hull, competing priorities like the massively expensive Columbia Class nuclear ballistic missile submarine and the Navy's dream of substantially expanding its surface combatant fleet are putting the viability of America's current supercarrier concept of tactical naval aviation power projection ever more in question.

Excerpt. See link for full article. (I'm too lazy to cut, paste, and format the whole thing...)

Ford will be the first modern American warship built without urinals. There are several reasons for this. The Ford will have a smaller crew (by at least 20 percent) and more of them will be women. Currently, about ten percent of American warship crews are women, but the Ford crew will be at least 15 percent female. Since women sleep in all-female dormitories (”berthing areas”), a toilet (”head”) will now be attached to each berthing area (instead of being down the hall). Moreover, berthing areas will be more spacious (because of the smaller crew) and hold a third to half as many bunks as previous carriers. Finally, drain pipes for urinals more frequently get clogged than those coming from toilets. So eliminating the urinals means less work for the plumbers. There are a lot of other visible changes to enhance habitability and make long voyages more tolerable.

A whole paragraph on toilets and urinals?

Dollars to donuts the quality people reported it and were ignored or were told not to report it by higher ups.

“As of early 2020 the navy believes the EMALS problems have been solved.

BUT One problem does remain. If one EMALS catapult develops problems all four EMALS catapults are out of service until the malfunctioning one is fixed. That was not a problem with steam catapults.

How much faster are 3 steam catapaults than ZERO EMALS catapults?

These new super complex ships do not seem to be designed for combat tempo, battle damage, quick repair or durability. One exocet strike and they’re out of business.

CVN Ford traveling the same road as Tiger tanks once did. Great equipment but lots of downtime, things that don’t work, very very expensive etc.
