Woman Filmed Driving Without Seat Belt Says They Are ‘Racist to Fat People’

A woman filmed driving without a seat belt says it wasn’t her fault because the belts are ‘racist to fat people’. The anonymous woman from New Zealand said she finds it difficult to strap herself in because she is overweight.

If they’re going to give me a fine for not fitting my seatbelt, that’s just being racist, to the fat people.’

‘They’re just being racist, like what do they think the whole world is skinny or something? What about the big people?’

One of the passengers points out seat belt sizing is not racist as ‘fat people’ are not a race.

However, the driver insisted: ‘I could actually sue, like what if I crash, and something happens to me because the seatbelt couldn’t go around me.’

The video is believed to have been made last June but the footage has only recently come to wide attention, being viewed half a million times.

People commenting pointed out that it is possible to buy a seat belt extender so drivers can keep within the law whatever their size.

It’s racist to ask that.

The drivers in Old Zealand are even fatter, but they just buy the belt extenders.

Fat isn’t a race.

It shouldn’t be, but it is shocking to me how completely uneducated people are. All that she had to do was say that seatbelts are discriminatory toward fat people (which isn’t true, but that’s a different discussion). But, apparently, the word discriminatory is too many syllables for this twit. So racist it is. Racist has now become the new means of saying “not pleasing to me.”

Cars built before 1965 that didn’t originally come with seat belts are exempt. EXCEPT, at least in NY and FL if children 12 or under are riding in them. My lovely daughter was 7 when I bought my 64 Chevy. It has the factory installed seat belts which were an option then, otherwise I would’ve had to install them.

You are too cheap to spring for less than $10 to ensure her safety?

I use the “M” design, I even bring one with me when riding in another’s vehicle.

Yeah, I have one of those.

Back when I had my accident my throat was bruised from the seat belt. My mom sewed a contraption together that brought the over the shoulder strap down and over a bit so it would not do that again.

To my knowledge there was nothing like it on the market at the time. She probably should have gotten a patient on it.

I’ve been using that “M” design for more than 15 years. Can’t remember exactly when I bought it, but it was at an Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts store.

Back in the 90s when I rode in a Telco cube truck (I made the young guys drive) I used to tape the cross chest belt to the part of the belt that ran up from thew floor through a “D” ring on the door frame. It never retracted properly, but it stopped cutting my neck.

I have had 2 vehicles that the seat belt was too short. One I could click, but couldn’t lean forward far enough to release the parking brake. (my current vehicle)

Hey, I’m a BIG guy.

I just bought an “extender”. Not expensive and readily available online. Various lengths, colors, types.
