Scenes from a panicked populace.
My actual experience | 3/14/2020 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 03/14/2020 4:18:31 PM PDT by Lazamataz

I want to share with you some scenes that greeted me at my local Kroger today.

These are scenes from a panicked populace.

Like locusts, they are stripping the shelves bare.

Kroger Toilet Paper aisle.

Kroger Deli Meat aisle.

Kroger bottled water aisle.

“ I’ve got 45 pounds of kidney beans coming...”

The farts...oh, the humanity

Pretty much how I feel. I understand there are a lot of scared people (their flames of fear fanned by the instant and omnipresent media) and I sympathize. They may not have the resources or intellectual capability to collate the information and form a reasoned opinion of it...they just hear what they are told.

But I don’t get it. This isn’t the Black Death. If it were, yeah.

But it isn’t.

And the reaction I see from people is far more unsettling and disturbing to me than the virus itself. That is something to view with sober concern.

What I see doesn’t register with me as “sober concern” though.

Much the same in SE Texas today. I was amused by what was left on the shelves. No sausage left except Polish and Turkey (ought to tell retailers something). No mayonnaise except the store brand and I had to hunt for a Colombian coffee. I have limited storage space so usually only buy a months paper items at a time. I am good on TP but probably will have to learn to function again without paper towels.

Re supply is running still, so store shelves will get stocked. Folks buying in bulk usually do most of that on weekends when they’re off. Sunday nights things get off pallets and onto shelves. Place an order for groceries at Wlly World on the net on Sunday night and pick it all up by noon on Monday. Wear gloves when unloading from car to storage, give things a wipe down before opening. Stay out of crowds.

I know.

There’s a lot of conflicting information.

That’s why I/we plan for the worst case scenario and if/when that doesn’t happen, nothing changes. We are no further behind.

If it does, then we still don’t have anything to worry about.

We bought a new house in NH last year.

When Cuomo and NYS passed that atrocious abortion bill, I said to mr. mm that we needed to get out of the state. We had been talking about retiring to NH for some time, and last summer seemed like the time to pull the trigger.

I just had a gut feeling that we needed to buy that house while our money was still worth something and we could afford it. And a scenario like this never occurred to me. I was looking at the political climate and told him that I wanted to move before the 2020 presidential elections.

I didn’t see any good outcome no matter who won. If Trump won, I could see a repeat of 2016, maybe even worse.

If Trump lost and God forbid a dem got in office with a dem House and Senate, then we can kiss this country goodbye.

Plus, the market was due for a correction and there had been rumblings about it for years. That was also not a matter of if, but when.

If we had waited until this year to do it, we’d have really been screwed. As it is, it’s just a matter of finishing moving our stuff and putting this place on the market and praying for the best.moving

Handi wipes are a really good replacement for paper towels.

They dry really quickly, too.

45 pounds of kidney beans coming next week?

I hope you have a good supply of water to cook them.

All I can hear in my mind is Billy Ray Valentine saying “they’re panicking out there, I can feel it.”

Sooo, what do these people do if the store shelves NEVER GET RESTOCKED? ... They die outside preppers’ homes with multiple lead pellets in them.
