It was one of the few things shipped in to the islands during WWII. SPAM is also considered a delicacy of sorts in South Korea— it was introduced during the Korean War I’ve heard.
Other “Hawaiian” staples:
Canned Vienna Sausages
Canned Corned Beef (the sort from Brazil/Argentina)

No idea, but I’d guess going to sea while anything that moved on the water could be mistaken for a Japanese asset by jumpy sailors still reeking of smoke and oil was probably a BAD idea...
I’ve pressure canned meats and they all come out looking like something preserved in formaldehyde in a science lab.
It would probably be good in chicken pot pies too.
My welding supply co still had N95 filters. Could have made some quick money but then some poor sap would be sanding/grinding with no mask.
You’re more than welcome to eat out at the risk of getting sick after the cook coughs on your plate.

If you want to know how crazy and panicked people in the DC area are getting, go to a Costco. At the store I’m at near Pentagon city, people are literally fighting over cases of bleach and Lysol spray.
This is what a leadership vacuum looks like.
canned chick for chicken pot pie, substituted for tuna, makes a great casserole. Sauted slightly first in burritos/tacos/grilled cheese and chick etc. Chicken patties, poppers, nuggets, and more.

That is incredible. I can't see why anyone would stand in line when you know everyone is going for the same basic stuff.
LOL...I just pressure canned about 12 Qts of beef stew, a few weeks ago.
