Yesterday's thread is here: http://freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3823939/posts?page=1301
Here in Washington state we do not double every day. We had 267 on March 10 and yesterday, the 12th, we had 457.
We go up about 100 per day. But we had the first case at the same time as Italy so we are on an advanced track, I think.
So, what would the motive for the Chinese to lie about the numbers after previously reporting epidemic numbers?
The point here is, there could be good news about the virus receding but you'd prefer to be paranoid, hand-wringer.
Johns Hopkins' website is reporting 1,268 cases in the US, and the Worldometer site is reporting 2,074 cases. Anyone know what's going on?
Swine Flu was the mildest flu strain in recent history, with a CDC estimated CFR of 0.01-0.08. It was likely about 0.05, or about half of typical influenza. The only reason any attention at all was paid to Swine Flu was that it was killing young people rather than old. The best case predictions for COVID-19 are 1%+, 20X higher. Even South Korea is trending upward, and will exceed 1% in a few days.
As I said on another thread:
If COVID-19 were putting young people in ICUs and coffins instead of old people, everyone would be screaming for MORE action. Except old folks, who could finally enjoy their lawn without a bunch of punk kids trampling it!
Like anyone should have expected anything else???????
To believe them is beyond foolish.
High school students in the Santa Barbara area have a nickname for the Wuhan Flu. They call it “The Boomer Remover”
I heard John Hopkins is having issues because it’s run by students or liberals at least. I heard they were arguing on how to label countries. ???
JH has been having these issues for a few days. They know, but can’t seem to get it fixed. Some states and even countries are missing or grossly under reporting. They have a twitter account.

I think the Chinese plant seemingly conflicting stories to seed even more uncertainty.
They were, but that problem seems fixed. Unfortunately, whoever they kicked off the team must have been the person who knew how to run their databases, as since that was "fixed" it's become wildly inaccurate.
To save face.
And I don’t think they’ve ever been forthright about the number of cases.
Plus, that number would imply that ALL the people who have it were tested and counted, and I seriously doubt that is the case.
If you look at S. Korea and China, there is a 19-21 day period of peak cases and then they come down the back side of the curve. We are on Day 11. People need to chill out and just let it run its course.
We haven’t even started yet. Britain is planning for the crisis to hit in about a week, one source indicates it will peak for them about June. I don’t know if we are before or after Britain.
So, boomers need to remove those HS kids from their wills.
Yes, now that I’ve rethought my calculation, 18,000 deaths out of 60 million cases of H1N1 should be 0.03 percent, not 0.3 percent.
The stats I derive from the JHU CSSE site data have been between 7.2% and 5.7% deaths since 2/27.
Not a bad match for two separate data sets...
The son said there was a failed test and later retracted.
There is an allegation he took two tests with the first results coming last night and a new, negative result today.
This Presidential presser is a big raspberry at China. He’s got all the movers and shakers out today, a garden full of free press, with transparency for all.
Welded doors, beatings, stormtrooping, CCP-one-upmanship political squabbling between (province equivalent) states at a nil. Citizen intimidation and blockading, throwing netizens into jail or worse, are all the stuff of totalitarian third world nations with glitter who’ve reduced their population to over-surveilled numbers on a shirt (see the china police ‘name tags’). Slaves punished, public and peer shaming encouraged and cheered on by the state towards those speaking against the state with the award of social credit, even against those sharing life-saving information.
Maoist brutalism and Marxist barbarism that just isn’t necessary in the free world where people are treated with dignity and independence of self. Even if they do act stupid sometimes. Let that sink in with the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans and the Russians - and the rest of the world.
Chen Quishi is still missing
Fang Bin is still missing
Kirk won in that scenario, didn't he?
At 7 am, our only store in town was as crowed as at 5 pm. They were scrambling to stock what they could. We won’t be getting a truck in for another 2 days, maybe. If the truck delivers tp, the store would have been out for 4.5 days. Lots of empty shelves. They finally opened the bacon/cheese/condiment aisle that’s been closed for 2-3 weeks so picked up 4 bacon (Venezuela style shopping is the norm but this takes it over the top). Should have got more but felt bad with every item I put in the cart.
We’re prepped enough but had to make a run to the hardware store so stopped by the grocer. Surprise, flubro hubby didn’t complain like he has been doing. It may be sinking in.
