CASE Introduces World's First Fully Electric Backhoe Loader
Inside EVs ^ | 11 Mar 2020 | Mark Kane

It's equipped with a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery and should be able to support an eight-hour workday in most of applications, offering:

payback in around five years (the upfront cost is higher than diesel)

. Utilities who operate their own backhoe fleets can power each machine off of the electricity they generate, essentially operating the machine at cost.

This thread was checked with ClamAV for the Wuhan virus; A-OK good to go!

Very quiet, nice. One problem, anything using heavy copper wires around Chicongo will soon meet up with a cable cutter or hacksaw... And a couple of the locals toasted, well done.

On the plus side, no utility field workers ever actually work eight hours in a day. They could probably make a week on one charging and more in off-seasons.unless they are sitting in the cab with the heater/AC blasting?

Right about the same time the costly battery pack would need replacing...

There was a post recently mentioning Electric 18-wheeker type trucks. I ask why we don’t see heavy equipment that employees Diesel/Electric motors like Locomotives do on the railroads. I guess there is much I don’t understand about this, but it seems to me that D/E would work.

A friend with a small business and not much health insurance took a fulltime job with Illinois DOT on the side. Much of his business could be run from a cellphone.

His job benefits were very good, but the pay was amazingly low!!! And he was a supervisor!!

Where all the tax money goes is a mystery!

I think we also have to determine how many DOT workers can lean against these electric backhoes as compared to the diesel backhoes. If they get less hot, I assume comfortable leaning surfaces will be increased.

Payoffs, bribes, and kickbacks. The actual cost of a one million dollar project is one dollar. 90% goes back to the politicians in form of bribes and kickbacks.

Was at a rr museum a while back. Weekday. No one there except .e, wife and caretaker. Showed us the big machines. The locomotives do use electric tric .motors for the drive as it is smoother power without clutch. However they have the largest mf diesel motor to generate the electricity for the drive motors.

Hmmmn. We use forklifts and 4-wheel loaders (LUFF) 2 shifts per day, 7 days a week, 12 hours per shift.

Now, the forklift isn’t working every hour of every day ... BUT! When I’m using it, it is in constant use. Not plugged in waiting.

Publicity stunt for the greenie crowdstrikers.

So, how much smokestack emission does this translate into?

Trading individual exhaust for power plant?

Unless the greenies/reddies would let us have more nuclear plants.

Like a giant slot car with a diesel to run the electric motors that turn the wheels. Definitely hybrid!

“Electro-diesels........the first HYBRIDS!”

Actually, the diesel powered earthmovers that use hydraulics for generating force are hybrids.

The losses into conversion is not worth it in an OTR truck.

With a locomotive it would be tough on a an engine powered direct transmission. The locomotive benefits in the reduced weight and maintenance
