No it isn’t. To know the death rate have to know how many cases there are and they don’t know that. Recorded cases may be a small minority of actual cases.
On my cruise ship from Feb-24th through 29th, I did not hear anybody talking about corona virus. They were all too busy eating, drinking and watching the live entertainment. I never saw any of the 3000+ people on ship wearing masks. However when we got off the ship, I saw a few people in port wearing masks. There are 300+ cruise ships prowling the oceans every week. That is = 1200+ cruises every month. So far only 3 had news of infections.

My contact in Italy is very intelligent, has made millions in the stock market. He calculated the rate by actual deaths so far in Italy divided by actual number who have fully recovered. I agree with him that is a good formula.
I didn’t go on cruise ships before CV. They are sickness factories and sound boring.

I submit that it will not turn out to not be a good formula. We will never know the true death rate because most people never know they have it as they spread it, especially younger people.

This was my 32nd or 33rd cruise. I came back stronger and more healthy from every one of them. Because I get to walk minimum 12,000 steps/day, the ocean air is the freshest on earth, the food is extremely healthy and nutritious if you choose wisely, and I don’t waste time cooking, cleaning and shopping for food. And you are surrounded by 2000-6000 happy people in good mood. I can not find that environment anywhere in any town.
We never know how many cases of anything never get reported yet we still come up with mortality rates. Why should this be done different or not at all?
I suggest everyone read Viktor Frankl’s “Man’s Search For Meaning” for insights into these kinds of life issues.
My operating stance at this time:
We know that stress weakens our immune systems.
Stress is self-induced.
I’m avoiding stress and doing the usual sanitation things people do during flu season.
