Six cases involved pregnant women, two of whom miscarried, the CDC said.
“Do not eat, serve, or sell any recalled enoki mushrooms distributed by Sun Hong Foods, Inc.” the CDC said on its website.
Listeriosis causes different symptoms in different people. For most, symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, fever, muscle aches and convulsions.
Pregnant women can have these same symptoms but the bacterial infection can also lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or life-threatening infection for the newborn.
Symptoms typically start one to four weeks after eating the contaminated food. The infections can be treated with antibiotics.

That’s the thing with consuming raw salads assembled with exotic ingredients. Better to at least blanch stuff like this before adding it to the mix.
My wife and I occasionally eat those very mushrooms. We get them from a South Korean store. They are normally healthy and cheap and since those are the white ones, they serve for us as a substitute for pasta noodles.
I am saddened to hear of the listeria concern and of those who died.

Exactly! My wife and I enjoy them and we buy them because they are not from China, but South Korea.

Never had them, but they sure are different looking. If I want to get adventurous with mushrooms, I’ll try a portabello.
I have a pound of white button mushrooms in the fridge that require my attention. Gonna make an omelet, or maybe a frittata shortly.

Often in each spring, those who shouldn’t be harvesting mushrooms pull a Darwin in Cali and Oregone and eat them.

Just a a note about the pasta. Wife and I tried 100 % wheat spagetti last night ( smothered in home made sauce) and we really couldn’t tell much difference.
Does this mean I am dead?????? Listeria hysteria!!!!!
