Talked to a friend earlier today. He is an EMT and is on two week home quarantine as he had secondary contact.

With the exception of Hubei Province, outbreaks in other provinces in China have basically ended. At the time of yesterday’s data, there were only five new confirmed cases in the country except Hubei. It’s time to start building a line of defense to block the importation of infected people overseas. In fact, China has also begun to refocus attention on economic and geostrategic strategies.
The political storm and further geogames surrounding the outbreak of the new coronavirus have just begun. Frankly, I hope that this time Americans and American compradors will perform better. Otherwise this game is too boring.

Infected first responders/doc/nurses was the catalyst in Iran and China for massive case increases.

We just bought a big, new chest freezer this past fall for our new home and I am busily stocking it up every time we head up to NH.
I think we still have a little bit of time here in CNY so I am doing what I can while we still have that window open.
I am also going to places at times when I know they are not generally busy.
A lot of people are using the hand sanitizing wipes on their shopping carts and I’ve seen touch screens and key pads that have been wiped as the cashiers are trying to do their part.
I also met a few people today who think this thing is all overblown media hype.

EXCELLETY! Those guys need to be protected. We’ll need him later.
I think the CDC tests can detect the virus after 5 days after exposure so will cut down length of quarantines.
Not sure of that though.

In order to fully understand what you’re saying please define all your terms...
Actual case?
Reported case?
Spread?
As I understand it...
Actual cases should be those confirmed by test
Reported cases are not necessarily tested and therefore unknown.
What is known is how it is increasing, based upon tested confirmed cases.
As such,.my chart is tracking confirmed actual cases. Retorted cases are not known, because they’re not confirmed by test, but merely unsubstantiated claims, as yet umpteen by test.
My numbers in the chart are confirmed cases by testing as given to us.
Reported cases...not quantifiable, veritable and unknown. However, without any doubt there are more cases than those confirmed, which have not yet and may never be tested.
So we go with what what we know...confirmed cases proven by test. These are the numbers in the chart.
Unconfirmed, unverified claims are not and should not be counted in case doubling rates.
“Spread” is a loose term, not quantifiable, or verifiable unto you define what you mean by “Spread”...region, people groups, state?
I’m only cataloging doubling rate.
Please share charts you may have to offer.
Here’s a good one in the form of graph, showing data points along the way (confirmed cases each day).
If you have issue with the daily totals please take that up with the CDC, because they’re reporting the numbers here.I I’m merely tracking doubling rate based upon the numbers.
Now if I have interchanged the terms reported and actual/confirmed, then my mistake. From here forward you can take the numbers as confirmed cases.

We’re screwed long term from this.
China will basically use this to take over the world.
Since THEY are the only ones who make medicines. THEY are the only ones who really make the medical supplies. They will use this to colonize every country even more than they already have.
Meanwhile, we’re still weaseling around with ‘hoax all clear’ and ‘you can’t tell me what to do if I want to go to my daughters dance I will!’ BS.
My any day prediction for Dallas, TX up thread was too optimistic. One case just announced.

Yes, and more lives lost. If they protect the hospitals and make everyone stay away, then the health system won’t collapse. We get through it quickly and the airline and cruise ship industries won’t collapse. Meanwhile, South Korea has not developed immunity, their population is still scared with clusters breaking out.
This is a big gamble that almost all cases won’t be that bad. It’s also a gamble that the virus won’t continually mutate and become endemic like the flu. If it does, the way China and South Korea is currently dealing with the virus will have to become a part of daily life for everybody. If the illnesses are worse than expected, the social order could collapse.
It’s the only thing that makes sense to explain the US response, but it really seems foolish to me. Pretty inhuman, too. Un-American, honestly, at least as I’ve always understood my country.
I’m thinking we’ve decided to use the Gilead drug on the worst cases and let everyone else ride it out.
