Yes, and more lives lost. If they protect the hospitals and make everyone stay away, then the health system wont collapse. We get through it quickly and the airline and cruise ship industries wont collapse. Meanwhile, South Korea has not developed immunity, their population is still scared with clusters breaking out.
This is a big gamble that almost all cases wont be that bad. Its also a gamble that the virus wont continually mutate and become endemic like the flu. If it does, the way China and South Korea is currently dealing with the virus will have to become a part of daily life for everybody. If the illnesses are worse than expected, the social order could collapse.
Its the only thing that makes sense to explain the US response, but it really seems foolish to me. Pretty inhuman, too. Un-American, honestly, at least as Ive always understood my country.
