Grad schools would shut down entirely (in STEM) for lack of money if it weren’t for the chicoms.

Eh, I don't believe that's the case. Maybe at some schools. But not in the broad brush statement you are making.

And in undergrad STEM programs, CCP has minimal influence as a whole. Had a nephew graduate with dual Mech Eng/Aero Eng degrees. About 50% of his class was foreigners - but they have NO chance with US defense contractors. Contractors were throwing big money at US graduates to work for them.

NO academic can freely speak out about anything regarding China, but most especially in STEM.

Again, broad brush statements.

I’m a bit behind on the strains.
Are you saying the L strain is the worse of the two?

It’s the grad programs most especially.

That’s where the R&D comes in. And the funding. And the subsequent theft.

Any prof or instructor is beholding to ccp because they need the students and ccp provides the students and pays their way.

Wasn’t it kruschev that said something about rope we’d hang ourselves with?

In this case, money.

In my grad school, there were 2 (this was nearly 4 decades ago) profs who didn’t have any students other than chicoms. Not ‘just asians’. not ‘chinese (HK, Macau, Taiwan, mainland). Chicoms. Their labs were the best in the whole department. New equipment, new chemicals, new everything. Labs 2 or 3 times the size of any of the other labs in the department. And oddly enough, nobody could really tell you, other than the basic ‘field’ they were in, what it was they actually researched...

—CDC stupidity, incompetence, stonewalling

did you see this part? They went against the CDC and started testing anyway to find cases!!

As luck would have it, Dr. Chu had a way to monitor the region. For months, as part of a research project into the flu, she and a team of researchers had been collecting nasal swabs from residents experiencing symptoms throughout the Puget Sound region.

To repurpose the tests for monitoring the coronavirus, they would need the support of state and federal officials. But nearly everywhere Dr. Chu turned, officials repeatedly rejected the idea, interviews and emails show, even as weeks crawled by and outbreaks emerged in countries outside of China, where the infection began.

By Feb. 25, Dr. Chu and her colleagues could not bear to wait any longer. They began performing coronavirus tests, without government approval.

What came back confirmed their worst fear. They quickly had a positive test from a local teenager with no recent travel history.

Yes L is the one that did all the killing in Wuhan. I wonder if they have L in Italy. S is just like a head cold with dry cough and a tickle on the throat for Heathy people.

If you only knew how much funding these departments get, you’d see the point.

Not a broad brush at all.

It was bad 20 years ago. It isn’t better now.

The Chicoms pay full freight as students, grad students too. And it isn’t just that.

Do read the info on ‘ten thousand talents program’. That’s not the only one btw.

The confucius institutes for example.

I have a theory on the 40-50% hospitalization rate.

It is based on the number of people in Italy who are tested.

If you live there and you are feeling ok you do _not_ want to get tested, particularly if you are young and in decent health.

So the tests many not have found many tens of thousands of Italians who are actually positive but feel ok.

This is such a tricky business.

Yeah...... if China is reporting so few new infections, perhaps they can start exporting test kits and medicines. Or perhaps at least helping the third world it is destroying.

Thank G-d for Dr Chu.

Would love to know if her test sequences are in that sequence database from WA.

Oh I don't doubt that there are schools that get big $ from PRC.

Thank goodness they didn't bother with my two schools! LOL

VENT Fitness informed members at the occurrence
Kassie Parisi

...In the email sent to members, VENT Fitness management confirmed that the two people, who were diagnosed on March 7, one a 57-year-old pharmacist and one is a 52-year old woman, were both at the gym on March 5.

The email continued to say that the Saratoga Department of Health contacted VENT Fitness on March 9 to inform the gym of a potential exposure at the Clifton Park location. The Five Stages of WuFlu

Denial:
- It is no worse than the flu
- Only Asians get it
- Our healthcare is just so much better
Anger:
- The CDC is blowing it
- Trump should have shut down all flights
- I can’t believe they value stocks more than life
Bargaining:
- If I get five more rolls of toilet paper I will be okay
- Teleworking and online classes will keep us safe
- But I needed to complete my preps anyway
Depression:
- I can’t believe things are this screwed up, it’s only getting worse
- It’s no use, we are going to be just like Italy
- Don’t talk to me, Coachella was the only bright spot in my life
Acceptance:
- Once you get it you’ll have immunity so there is that
- Sure it’s going to be rough for a while but things will work out, hopefully
- I sure miss (insert here) (grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, wife, husband, brother, sister, son, daughter)

What stage are you in?

Then he became a flu bro. His normalcy is washing his hands all the time. His normalcy has clouded his ability to react.

Agreed that his response has been less than ideal. Why are there any flights from IT, SK or JP? That's his decision when it gets down to it.

He'll have to own it whether he wants to or not.
