Grad schools would shut down entirely (in STEM) for lack of money if it weren’t for the chicoms.

Eh, I don't believe that's the case. Maybe at some schools. But not in the broad brush statement you are making.

And in undergrad STEM programs, CCP has minimal influence as a whole. Had a nephew graduate with dual Mech Eng/Aero Eng degrees. About 50% of his class was foreigners - but they have NO chance with US defense contractors. Contractors were throwing big money at US graduates to work for them.

It’s the grad programs most especially.

That’s where the R&D comes in. And the funding. And the subsequent theft.

Any prof or instructor is beholding to ccp because they need the students and ccp provides the students and pays their way.

Wasn’t it kruschev that said something about rope we’d hang ourselves with?

In this case, money.

In my grad school, there were 2 (this was nearly 4 decades ago) profs who didn’t have any students other than chicoms. Not ‘just asians’. not ‘chinese (HK, Macau, Taiwan, mainland). Chicoms. Their labs were the best in the whole department. New equipment, new chemicals, new everything. Labs 2 or 3 times the size of any of the other labs in the department. And oddly enough, nobody could really tell you, other than the basic ‘field’ they were in, what it was they actually researched...

Do our corporations need to hire them, tho? And do they indeed hire them, just under a subsidiary in some bodunk company in some out of the way corner of the world? While they apply for dual citizenship that CCP would never in a million years recognize, but we will. The technology has been taught, given away, under the belief we’re creating global citizens that will all play nicely in the sandbox. Kum bay ya style When all we’ve created is more informed enemies. And why would a ME/AE class be filled with 50% foreigners in the first place? Surely it’s not an indication that young Americans have no interest but more an indication of inaccessibility for the average American student? Tuition driven into the stratosphere by accessibility of foreign money? In a class of 50% foreigners, can anyone honestly say there is unfiltered dialogue?

In the end, the universities are screwing themselves and us in the process. The education capitol of the world has exported its knowledge to a nation that has, right now, become the education capitol of Asia, with well over a million international students just in Wuhan. Students that are not paying tuition in the USA. Or Europe. Being taught exactly what the turtles were taught here, but providing zero in return to the Western world. Unless you want to count the racism and subversive propaganda against America being taught in in Chinese schools very evident in the Stockholm syndrome behavior exhibited by ex-pats. Grateful to flee to America to avoid the pandemic, but afraid to exercise free speech here, in fear they might lose their job they’ll soon return to back in China- knowing they are monitored.

50% foreign students, but we can’t even get accurate pandemic data.
