With 16 new and 105 total cases of coronavirus now reported in New York state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo called upon the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to authorize the use of private labs to do automated testing for the virus on Sunday.
"We don't have the testing capacity we need," Cuomo said. "The testing capacity is now more than the state lab can handle. Let us bring in private labs to do some of the testing."
As of Sunday morning, Cuomo said the total number of confirmed cases jumped to 105, up from 89 on Saturday evening and from 44 on Friday: The surge is tied to a community in New Rochelle in Westchester County. The current breakdown by region:
Westchester 82
New York City 12
Nassau 5
Rockland 2
Saratoga 2
Suffolk 1
Ulster 1
Allowing other commercial laboratories to test for the virus would quicken the testing process. The machines responsible for automated testing at private labs are capable of handling 120 samples at a time, Cuomo said.
The CDC has allowed state labs, which in New York is the Wadsworth Laboratory in Albany, to run testing for the coronavirus. However, Cuomo said on Sunday that the state labs cannot keep up.
By allowing private labs to run tests, around 1,000 people could be tested per day, Cuomo said.

There's no predicting at this point what will happen.

That the CDC plan to shut down travel for over 60s was not allowed by the Executive Branch, and that right after Mike Pence gave his "keep cruising" speech CDC issued a "don't cruise" warning tells me that the government is at odds with itself and is now unable to act decisively at a time when it is required.

My thinking exactly...yes we have a flu bug, yes it started in China (maybe to get back at Our President for the tariff situation?) yes the flu bug is going world wide because people are flying out and into China, where it started, and taking it with them...
Last year we had the flu, it killed people, it made people sick, and miss work, school and whatever...the year before that we had the flu, did the same thing...
The flu nomatter what flu it is, makes people sick and it kills people...
This flu this year, I have hear that the Nazi News Corps has named it “The Trump Flu” well right there tells you something...if Trump wasn’t around or if Trump wasn’t POTUS then it would be just the Flu...what if the Smelly Old Hag had won, would the flu be called the ‘Clinton Flu’??? I have noticed in my little circle, people have about a two day window where they can worry about this.
They get amped up, buy some water and toilet paper, aren't dead or know anyone dead in two days and go right back to oblivious vapid living.
Like I post ad-nauseam, always refer the virus as the Wuhan Virus, or better yet, as another FReeper suggested, the Wuhanic Plague. Don’t give the Democrats (or the Communist Chinese) the opportunity to push this on Trump. Make the Chinese Communists own it forever. The Democrats and the Communist Chinese are already trying to make the US the source of the virus.

Before, I said that people should stock up a little on necessities to cut down on traffic in stores if needed later. Now I see too much hysteria from anti-Trump media companies.
