Way back, in January, BEFORE Xi's announcements, I noted that the novel Coronavirus (nCov) had reached an inflection point and would soon be declining. I had even waited a few days to confirm the trend. Over the last few days, there have been only 10 official cases outside Wuhan province, and only a few hundred each day inside Wuhan. The great Chinese lie wasn't that nCov wasn't destroying civilization; it was that it wasn't nearly as contagious as the Chinese were letting on.
We can see that now in South Korea and Italy. There's less data, and it's less centralized, so the data is "noisier" than in China. But it seems that on March 3 and March 4, Korea had fewer cases (1,286) than on February 29 and March 1 (1,399). And I may be jumping the gun in Italy, but there were fewer cases on March 2 and 3 (342 and 466) than on March 1 (566).
There are no great factories of incineration. To all the people who think that sulfur compounds in air pollution means burning bodies, coal and oil also have sulfur. So if Chinese cities quit importing gas and fall back on coal and oil, there's your sulfur.
So how did it spread through the Diamond Princess? Well, I'm not privy to any inside information, but coronaviruses are colds. Colds take a long while before they cause symptoms. My guess is that nCov had swept through the ship BEFORE the quarantine.
We're seeing this in Washington state. The virus has been there for six weeks, running unchecked, and only now, we're finding out about it... and in nursing homes.
nCov is a serious matter. Viruses swap technology, and we now have something I've feared since I was a college student in the 1990s: a cold virus has some AIDS technology. And 2% of the people who contract this virus will die. (Or maybe less... it strikes smokers hard.) We learned a LOT of lessons from real-world drills. But when you read about it sweeping America, remain calm folks.
This virus proves that the media can induce a mass panic for political purposes.
So the virus has been a success.

They announced this morning that they are effectively shutting Italy down. No schools, no crowds...pretty much what China did—with the exception of chaining people in their homes.
No need to panic about this. No need to ever panic if you are informed and have thought a personal response through.
But, we are still hip deep in this thing. I think its a little early to declare “victory.”
That’s impossible. I was told last weekend to “give it a week” and the bug would be exploding in the US. Apparently, not.
Good reasons to believe that it is a Chinese bioweapon which got accidentally released before planned. Wuhan is ground zero and covid-19 ran amuck until China admitted it's presence.
City of Wuhan is the only place in China where the research lab was working on this type of viruses.
It is a bio-weapon being perfected to be released in countries which are preventing China to again become the top economy in the world. A millennium or two ago it was the top economy. China badly wants to prove superiority.
China can not fight on tariffs with US because we import 4 times more from China than China imports from us. Tariff war hurts China 4 times harder. The bioweapon is ideal stealth weapon to attack and which would be difficult to trace. Millions in US would have been sick and dying not knowing what was the reason. Symptoms same as flu and cold, and no one knows about covid-19. For many months media would have said a bad flu season!
Since the culprit is now properly identified, and Trump admin is taking unprecedented actions, covid-19 will be on page 19 of NYT by beginning of summer.
How dare you introduce reason and data into a good panic?!?!
I want to use all my preparation stuff I bought and shut myself in my house while society collapses all around me.

The sentence leaves me thinking that I know what is meant but I can never be totally certain.
Really, you MUST STOP taking Communist Chinese propaganda as the gospel. They murdered over 50 MILLION of their own citizens. Why should we believe CoViD-19 is in decline in China?
Schools in Japan just announced closures until May.
Why are gov’ts reacting this way?
There are tin-foils on both sides of this issue since the truth is so hard to find these days.
China data comes out of the communist party. It is not reliable. Watch their manufacturing data to see if it goes up now that the “virus is ending.” So far it is on a downward dive; lower in the most recent quarter than the one before.
I hope you’re right about that. Honestly, I do, but I won’t be panicking either way.
As far as I am concerned, China should be erased from this world.

No going to panic, but I was scheduled to go to a financial conference next week. I was still planning to go, but the organization cancelled the whole thing this morning. I’m getting my hotel deposit back and cancelled my Southwest flight for credit. A lot of stuff like this is going on.
