Is the cytokine expression only manifested upon reinfections ?

I think it is prominent in both.

Plasma inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in severe acute respiratory syndrome

I think the original SARS treatment as demonstrated in this study had success with corticosteroid treatment. Currently in Iran cases this is having the opposite effect.

Thanks for the offer! I doubt they’ll ever shut down the roads like they did in China - but as a trucker - you might be the first to know!

I have a friend in the EPA. They had some meetings a few weeks ago for contingency plans. The guy running it said they estimated the numbers from China are low by a factor of 7. I told them to contact me if they heard any more. Last Wednesday (before the deaths!) they were told if they could do their work from home they could do that if they wanted to.

It sounded like the next step would be to shut down the offices.

I think your comments are spot on. This has the potential to change almost everything about the way we go about our lives for decades to come. Or, it could blow through, take its toll, whatever that is, and hopefully be a lesson.

We do not know yet. It is pulling back the curtain on a lot of things.

GA health said cases are Italy related said not worried about people on plane because he didn’t have symptoms then

The old ”he wasn’t contagious on the plane” crock. Just like the lady in NYC who traveled home from Iran.

we won’t get good info from the CDC in a timely fashion. they are reactive by nature and their priority isn’t giving us the best info to protect our health

There are great people there, but remember, they work for YOUR politicians and under normal circumstances the only way for the CDC professional staff to lose their jobs is to make anyone mad or sad, or both.

Every time they give a press conference, there's a politician behind a curtain waiting to stab them in the back - until that politician emerges two weeks later to say they didn't do enough.

I really wish that these health “experts” would read FR. Everyone knows that this virus can be transmitted up to 14 days (or so) before the person shows symptoms.

Check out the beauty inside the Bellagio if you get a chance. It’s my #2 The ARIA is out of this world. WOW!. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t see 50 Orientals with masks on out of thousands. If you have the inclination, an on the ground FReeper exclusive would be great.

It is the viral load that will trigger whether you actually get sick or not.

Like you I was reading up on masks and why our government is saying we don’t need the n-95 masks in public.

It appears to me our government is trying to slow the spread down and keep the viral load low with hand-washing and social distancing, but recognizes that or hopes...our immune systems will have sufficient time to react to the virus. Basically, a slow inoculation of the population with a lowered viral load. Theory is if it spreads too quickly it won’t work and we’ll see systems overwhelmed.

It seems they see this setting up like the Spanish Flu, where summer brings a slowdown in cases and then it comes roaring back in the fall. Spanish Flu appeared more virulent in the fall because containment may have been too good in the spring leaving many people susceptible when flu season hit again the fall.

I don’t know if what they are trying to do will work, since this virus appears to be able to reinfect?

There are science several papers posted about this back in thread 6 I think? A slow spread of this across the nation might be our best hope.

Link to the study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2440799/

They even say homemade masks from tea towels to reduce the viral load are likely sufficient. See the end paragraph regarding being too restrictive regarding containment.

Re: 595 - Great post with a good explanation.

It sure is tough to not tough one’s face. Was just watching that a couple of days ago and caught myself 3-4 times, but then missed 1-2 times.

If you get caught in a quarantine situation...don’t shake hands. Tap them toes together 3X and say, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.”

We’re off to see the virus./HEAVY S

Several weeks ago I was in Costco (Seattle area) and they were all out of coffee filters. The next week - the same thing. Then I realized - I bet all of the Chinese in the area are sending them back home to be used as face masks!

I was in Harbor Freight two weeks ago. They had a bunch of dust masks on the shelf. But they are cheap, unrated things. I bought some for some construction dust - they were really bad. (Everyone else is wiped clean). I have what I hope is enough of the masks - but those HF things would be better than nothing perhaps.
