Nick Apollo Forte, a lounge singer who gave an engaging performance in Woody Allen’s film “Broadway Danny Rose,” died Wednesday at age 81.

The singer — born Nicola Antonio Forte — began his career at age 15 under the stage name Nicky Redman and opened for Della Reese at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 1957. He later adopted the stage name Nick Apollo.

Forte, a native of Waterbury, Conn., recorded albums in addition to his live shows. When Allen was looking for someone to play a lounge singer in 1984′s “Broadway Danny Rose,” he came across Forte’s album “Images” in a record store in New York and gave him the part.

The black-and-white film was screened out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and both it and Forte — who got third billing behind Allen and Mia Farrow — received praise.

There are no memorable Woody Allen films and therefore
there are no memorable roles in Woody Allen Films.

“Ahhh-gitahhh, a-goombah...abostann-zzzooo...”

My favorite Mia Farrow movie that wasn’t called Rosemary’s Baby.

I disagree as “Bananas,” “Love and Death,” and “Crimes and Misdemeanors” are great.

I have tried to watch a few Woody Allen films but just could not get into the groove or something. After being bored silly for 15 or 20 minutes I would just give up.

Annie Hall and Crimes and misdemeanors were good.

I must grudgingly admit some of his films were pretty good. I don’t want to argue which ones.

Sleeper, Bananas & Take the Money and Run are pretty memorable. The others are various re-doings of the “I’m Jewish, I’m a New Yorker, & I’m neurotic” schtick. It’s funny once, maybe twice but that’s it.

I would say “What’s Up, Tiger Lily” and “Take the Money and Run” are probably two of my most favorite Woody Allen movies. “Bananas” and “Sleeper” are pretty funny too. I hate that he’s a pedo creep. I will no longer watch him because of it.

I’m sure you’ve seen them all :)

If one bases talent on a person’s personal life, no matter how ugly it is, they’ll look silly quite often.

He’s a monster. There’s no doubt. Certainly takes some enjoyment away.

But they ARE memorable movies.

This show was funny. The Italian scenes and gangsters in it were hysterical and too real :)

Sleeper, Love and Death, Take The Money and Run, Annie Hall, Play It Again Sam, Manhattan Murder Mystery and others..very good movies.

Make sure you don’t watch any :)
