As CTyank says, this is not about infection, but presence of the virus. Not the same thing at all.

What will they do next? make us get rid of cats and dogs?

The less than $6 face mask stock I told you all about is now over $40. There is a person here who bought into it when it was cheap and made the decision to stay in overnight.

Congratulations on a big payout...assuming you sell before it tanks.

I wasnt in on the big ride! Just a small one

FAKE NEWS.

Show me a report from a DVM and a test done at a diagnostic lab that the dog tested + for COVID-19.

Anything else is speculation.

I think Mother Nature is culling the herd.

First the pigs, then the chickens, then humans and now the dogs.

Dogs already have their own coronavirus vaccine. I’ll bet immunized dogs would test positive for other coronaviruses.

Indeed.

If testing for antibodies, eveey dog will teat positive, either as vaccinates, or just as likely, from getting the virus and recovering from it via antibody titers.

We don't even vaccinate dogs for the corona any more, we let them become exposed and recover after a few days of diarrhea.,P>Immunity is lifelong.

I don't now if extrapolation into the human disease is a fair assessment, but the point stands. Any recovered patient will have a positive titer of antibody.

If they are testing the actual antigen, the actual virus, this would be a more accurate assessment of infection, but the patient has to become viremic before a positive blood test, and that depends on the incubation period.

Isn’t the Sun a World Wide News type publication. Other articles reported that it was not sure if the dog was infected or if it only tested positive because of the presence of the virus in its nasal cavities and mouth. This would be due to exposure to the virus from its owner. Whether it truly had the disease was yet to be determined.

I doubt this, but in general, I think we would be better off if we just stopped having pets.

“... Yup. This is a scenario right out of Stephen King’s “Pet Cemetary.”...”

****

How is this remotely likened to Pet Sematary? My favorite Stephen King book, btw.

Okay, I see in the Sacramento Bee that a dog did test “weak positive” for the coronavirus.

Is this test a titer?

We would tests sheep for OPP at WADDL and get Positive, Negative and Suspect. The few Suspect results were apparently were in the process of seroconversion because they would always come back as a later test as Positive.

I had a goat that was CAE +. Never showed any clinical signs of the disease. Ended up giving ~14,000# of milk lifetime. Great doe. Died at 14.

Unless the test was a PCR technology test, serological tests are suspect. In dogs we had several coronaviruses that were closely related, some pathogens and some non disease causing and before the specific PCR testing all tests were suspect. Clinical signs with a serological positive were the standards but now the PCR test is only firm diagnostic. With sera only paired titers are diagnostic and even then it sometimes took several tests for confirmation.

Thanks! More information is definitely needed. There’s just not enough in the article to draw a reasonable inference.

And it sounds like some tests are not what I would call “gold standard”. The AGID CAE test was not very sensitive (well, not as sensitive as the ELISA). Was very pleased when the ELISA test became available.
