Unless the test was a PCR technology test, serological tests are suspect. In dogs we had several coronaviruses that were closely related, some pathogens and some non disease causing and before the specific PCR testing all tests were suspect. Clinical signs with a serological positive were the standards but now the PCR test is only firm diagnostic. With sera only paired titers are diagnostic and even then it sometimes took several tests for confirmation.

Thanks! More information is definitely needed. There’s just not enough in the article to draw a reasonable inference.

And it sounds like some tests are not what I would call “gold standard”. The AGID CAE test was not very sensitive (well, not as sensitive as the ELISA). Was very pleased when the ELISA test became available.
