New York City transportation authorities have inflicted lots of bike lanes on locations where they are particularly inappropriate. But for sneering, arrogant disregard make that contempt for the surroundings, none can equal the plan for a protected bike lane along Midtowns Sixth Avenue from West 35th Street to Central Park South this year.
. . . .
[T]he Sixth Avenue lane raises the bar for malicious streetscape tampering. A bike lane right on the doorsteps of Manhattans most vital office towers seems willfully spiteful a thumb in the eye of profit-making capitalism with a slap at the New York City transportation authorities have inflicted lots of bike lanes on locations where they are particularly inappropriate. Time to bring back the horses and buggies.
People need to _know_ they are in a big city—by the smell!
;-)
Bikers are dangerous to pedestrians as well as drivers.
Not only does one have to look out for cars at a stop light, one also has to be careful not to be in the way of bikers who do not obey the street lights. One would think that they would stay in the bike lanes, they don’t.
LOL.
I wouldn’t mind horse & buggies in the city.
First, I’d suggest the roads be changed to cobblestone!
Five slaughters or but five avenues?.....
LOL.
THAT would be truely epic trolling.
When the weather gets better, they close 6th Avenue for street fairs, from 42nd Street north. All the cars have to turn off at 42nd. That is a real beauty if you’re in a car or bus going north, east, or west. Bring your lunch. All so people can stroll around and buy corn on the cob.
The strangest thing is tat NYC doesn’t have weather that is conducive to consistently using a bike instead of another form of transportation. While movies are misleading about it, we have a lot of wet weather (to say nothing of the cold winters). It normally rains a couple of days per week in the NYC metro area.
Nope. It’s the values of people on bikes (not all of them) who flaunt road rules then complain when through their own stupidity they get hit; same goes for motorcyclists who exceed the speed limit on two lane roads and pass on the double yellow line.

Could be a movie script in there somewhere...
