I thought some of us might have a need for a break and some light-hearted humor. I hope I don't start a war.

I've notice that far, far more Freepers have cat-oriented screen names than those that have dog-oriented names. I'm not even sure I've come across a Freeper with a dog-oriented screen name, unless unbeknownst to me they picked the name of a pet dog.

I'm not sure what it all means, if anything.

What if you like both, but have neither? ;)

Yeah, don’t even have to read it.

More of the usual: dogs and dog people rule, and cats and cat people suck.

Predictable as rain.

Which, of course, makes those of us who have BOTH messed up in the head, I guess. :P

An old saying and true. Dogs have owners and cats have a staff.

WHAT THE heck? I have 3 “real” dogs, not yappy runts, American Foxhound, Catahoula, and a Springer Spaniel, and 4 cats - One Tiger, One Orange Tabby, one Long Haired, and one “Garfield” old fat man.

So, am I confilicted? Also, BTW, one cat thinks he’s a dog, and one dog has adopted 2 of the cats as littermates.

Life is more complicated (and more interesting) than stereotypes.

I am a dog man but I like kittens too. I have several cats who visit every few days. They do keep the rats away.

Try a Maine Coon, they are the dogs of the cat world. Act more like a dog than a cat. Answer to their name and just as loving as any dog.

Have had both dogs and cats. My Maine Coon got along well with the dogs and the dogs got along well with her.

By the way she would back up and 80 pound lab and 80 pound black and tan coon hound. Took no guff from anyone or anything.

Came home one day and Meanness was on rail of the deck eying a red tail hawk on the privacy fence and hawk was eying her. Mexican stand off. Toughest 7 lb cat you have ever seen.

Screen name from our first three pups - Sara Tara Mozart they live long in our hearts.

We have both currently; five dogs and our seven cat-crew is not three, one 19 year old, and two 3 year olds.

Hubby is more kitty-oriented, and I am more dog-oriented, but we are fluid and straddle the characteristics descried in article, which we thorougly enjoyed. Thank you!

From the article: "Dog owners, much like dogs, will pretty much believe anything you tell them."

But what if dog owners disagree with that statement? Kind of a conundrum.

At any rate, the alleged differences between dog and cat lovers are only a matter of varying percentages, not absolute differences, and might partially be explained by the fact that cats are easier to take care of in urban environments, especially the high-density environments of major cities.

Some of the so-called variances in personality traits of dog and cat owners might just as easily be explained by geography.

Act more like a dog than a cat.

My cat plays fetch. My dog ignores me. I think I have some messed up animals.

Actually, this time it's more like dog people are conservatives and cat people are liberals.

I am 100% a ‘Dog Person’ but for SOME reason, people keep foisting CATS off on me, so I’ve had plenty of cats, too.

Current menagerie is 10 hunting dogs (kenneled, in their own building), two house dogs (a Beagle and a Basset Hound) and two indoor/outdoor cats (former barn kittens, ancestry is sketchy).

And a Mule. ;

I admire both from afar. For different reasons.
Haven’t the time to devote to a pet and not interested in sharing the close quarters of a vehicle with either species.
