I stopped following recycling rules when they said “No pizza boxes in the recycle.”.

I remember those log-rollers! Very efficient and fun.

I make these out of newspapers for fire starters. They work like a charm:

I also make a lot of my seed-starting pots from newspapers and toilet paper cores cut in half when I’m starting plants in the spring for the veggie garden. Easy-peasy and cheap!

We shouldn’t recycle paper anyway.

The environmental cost to bleach old paper, convert it back to pulp and remanufacture it as paper is the same as starting from a new piece of wood. (Unlike Aluminium)Paper is completely reneawable

Neither paper or glass needs to be recycled. Both are basically innocuous environmentally. You just compost the paper and the glass is just rock. It can be mixed as concrete/asphalt aggregate or busted up and dopped in the ocean

Glad I haven’t wasted too much time catering to the lefts obsession with recycling. At every town “recycling” center there are trash nazis that like making people do unnecessary thing. That’s why I pay somebody to just take everything away. If they want to sort it they can.

Which is good enough to sit around the fire at the end of an evening.

I live here and I absolutely understand this. We have people from many different countries who just don’t understand what recycling is.

> Recycling and trash collection all have a high skim rate.

Tucson, AZ pays from $37 to $49 a ton to a recycling company.
The landfill charges $32 a ton for them to drop off trash.

“all of the “recycling” stuff is carried off to a big hole and buried.”

That’s probably better than burying everything mixed together.

I am thinking that someone who invents a means of automating the separation process, if at a reasonable cost, could make some money.

The dirty secret is that is has for a long time been automated, very efficiently. It’s just a matter of whether or not recycle centers / trash collectors use the tech. I watched a documentary showing this more than 10 years ago.

Laziness results in ineffective recycling, as well as non-existent enforcement to prevent pilfering. But, at least people feel good about recycling.

I have a wonder wood burning stove and all of my paper (as well as much of my neighbors paper like newspapers) ends up in there. And boy is it super nice heat!

Recycling is another way of Liberals recycling your money. They recycle your money into their (and their cronies) pockets.

Is it really necessary to build those? Crumpled/bunched newspaper works pretty well for me.

Other good firestarters include egg cartons (cardboard, not Styrofoam of course), and any of the pulped cardboard packing things you get with a lot of stuff. The kinda rough, formed pieces, if you know what I mean.

I just do it because it’s FUN, and it also makes a longer-burning ‘starter’ than just crumpled up paper. YMMV. ;)
