CROYDON, N.H. A New Hampshire towns chief of police left town hall in his underwear after officials voted to dissolve the one-man department.
I was told that I had to turn over the keys to the cruiser and my uniform immediately. I had no other means of transportation, as the cruiser is a take-home vehicle, and I have no spare clothes in the office, so I did as ordered, police chief Richard Lee told the Union Leader.
Lee, who had worked nearly 20 years for the town, walked nearly a mile home during a snowstorm in a pair of boots, his hat and underwear before his wife picked him up.

As they say at SXSW you wont get paid but youll get exposure!
He could have been arrested for indecent exposure.
If they had a police department.
“Lee, who had worked nearly 20 years for the town, walked nearly a mile home during a snowstorm in a pair of boots, his hat and underwear before his wife picked him up.”
Why would she pick him up at home?
At any rate, this means he would have only had a work cell that he presumably just turned in, and not a personal cell phone.
More power to his principles, although it sounds like something I might have done much younger than he is.
Well? Was he hot looking?? If he were a woman, FReepers would have graciously posted photos.
Not sure they were better off with a police department, if this is the Chief... Talk about stupid.
If he’s that much of a wimp, maybe he was not right for the role. What were they going to do if he went home and changed and brought back the car and uniform, with a ride? There was nobody to arrest him. And any future judge is going to see they put him in an unreasonable position, and that he acted reasonable by doing so.
I smell a lawsuit ... probably has a queue of lawyers waiting to talk to him now.
That way she didn't have to get dressed herself, so she met him in her underwear. 8>)
Not after that walk.:)
Actually he looked like an ordinary older guy. Maybe late fifties. Not bad but no Mark Harmon.
After 20 years on the job, the fact someone did not offer a ride home and made him turn in his uni first says to me there is more to this story.
What were they going to do if he went home and changed and brought back the car and uniform, with a ride?
Then there would not be a story in the news.
No wonder they fired him, he's an idiot.
I think his walking home in his skivvies was a rather clever and appropriate form of protest.
He probably was not writing enough tickets because they are, by their own account, taking at least a $5000 a year bath on the new contract they want to put in place.
WHAT A DISGUSTING STORY !! THEY HAVE NO HEARTS !!
“Take home cruiser”
Cop issued phone?
Cop issued clothes?
All paid by the taxpayers?
End that giveaway crap.
Constitutional Carry.
Save money
Save lives
Would have been the perfect day to go to work ‘commando’
New Hampshire has constitutional carry.
